As you may have already heard, my good friend and fellow pipeman, Ed James, passed away unexpectedly yesterday. Ed was one of the kindest, gentlest, most generous, and most unpretentious people that I have had the pleasure of knowing in the pipe community. He was both a pipe maker and a pipe repairman and he was always willing to share his knowledge with anyone that was interested. I regret that I never had the chance to meet him in person, but we talked frequently both on Facebook and online forums. I will miss him greatly.
To honor his memory, I'm having a bowl of "Ed's Leftovers" (a catchall mix of jar scrapings that Ed put together for the DGCF box pass) in an Ed James modded cob. The custom cob tamper that Ed made for me is alongside. Ed and I had talked about giving this pipe the Shuckin' Awe treatment, but now... I just don't know.
Rest in peace, my friend, and I hope that heaven smells exactly like Carter Hall.
