Setting The Stage: Picnic War Zone

I've been working on this "Picnic Table" series for some time, and this is the penultimate post with respect to the mystery. I posted the setting up for the July 4th Celebration previously, and with this post and the wrap-up tomorrow, I think you will all get the drift of my seeming madness.

There is a little war going on in my life, and I'll give you the background in this post. First of all, I do apologize for posting all of these pictures of myself . . . don't usually like to do this but there is a reason for them. Both smokes covered in the 4 photos following relate to the plot.

Those of you of my antiquated age may remember the 1970's Hollywood blockbuster "Joe" starring Peter Boyle and Dennis Patrick. A not-so-satirical masterpiece, and sets the stage for the war I've been having and have now concluded. The them song of the movie had the lyrics: "Hey Joe, Kinda makes ya wanta go to war . . . . once more . . . . "

Here's my war, and this directly concerns my late canine companion, Ricoh, who died in April. Most of you know the story, but the last four years of his life, he was totally blind and deaf, and totally dependent on me. He had a great nose, and loved to go to Cottonwood Park in PG because he knew he'd always have them muffin game played with him at the picnic tables there. I'd tear the usual McDonalds Fruit and Fiber muffin into pieces, and toss them within leash distance of the table, and he'd revel in hunting them down and going on to the next fragment. It was hilarious . . . he looked like a miniature vacuum cleaner and we all loved the game, whoever was with me at the time.

Here are the Battle Ground Hazards:

1. It is illegal in PG to have a dog without a tag. I took Ricoh's off of him when he was given to me.
2. It is illegal in PG to bury your dog on your own property. Heavy Fines involved. I buried Ricoh, after interring him in a cooler filled with foam cement, on my own property. He's buried 6 feet under, lying in his favourite spot in the backyard, where he used to lay down in the sun, about 15 feet from my back steps. He's buried under my Picnic Table.
3. It is illegal in PG to "off" your own dog. It MUST be done at a government vetrinarian clinic, and the cost is over $500. Uh, go sit on a drill, snivel servants.

There's more red tape, but you get the drift. I posted the first smoke (a cigar) yesterday at the picnic table. I enjoyed the cigar, and the fact that my little buddy was there at my feet. The following pictures are captioned, explanation above each shot.

The first shot is me, first smoke with the new Mr.Brog Military in Olivewood, with the break in tobacco of Borkum Riff Black Cavendish. I enjoyed reminiscing Ricoh, and had the smoke in his honor.

I had the second smoke, with my workhorse Ropp J07 (didimauw convinced me to buy it, and Sobrbiker dubbed his the workhorse so I just copied him, because it is indeed thus.) I sometimes get a little preoccupied when smoking this pipe. It seems to go with the territory. Thus, the rare clench - hardly ever do this.

So you all know, I had this smoke in honor of ya'll who have lost your pets recently, and family and friends, too. I remember the kindness of replies from Sobrbiker, Carol, jimi, Bob, Scott, Paul, and so many of you others who had "been there, done that" and are even yet in the process of grieving. I was, and am, grateful.

BTW, had to use matches to light up because my old trusty ran out of fuel.

So, how am I fighting this war? That will be answered tomorrow. It's been in the works for 4 years, since Ricoh went deaf and blind. Every Caesar has a Brutus, and I'm sure that there is one in the woodwork, like a termite crawling around.

My attitude is the same as the quote under the avatar of one of my favourite Forum Gurus: "The answer to 1984 is 1776." Yup, that's why I chose July 4th.

Thanks to one and all, again. Be back tomorrow, probably very late. :) puffy

Oh Yeah, I smoked the Ropp J07 with Sunday Picnic.

Always love it when you post this pipe. The color distribution on this one is great. Both are excellent baccy choices, as well, i might add. ;)

Thanks man. It’s the only pipe that I own that my wife has ever felt compelled to hold and inspect because she thought it looked so cool.

This is the same pipe in Dec 2023 around when I first got it.

A quarter of the way through this bowl of year 2014 Uhle’s 00 in a 2015 straight smooth dark brown Peterson Irish Harp 150 bulldog with a silver band and a tapered acrylic cumberland fish tail stem. This will get me to dinner time. Abner the Eager woke up and ate. Then, he wanted out. I opened the door, he saw and heard the rain, and went to the kitchen. Daisy the Feral Princess went out, but she'll be back soon. Tomato the Brave showed up a while ago. He got dried off, ate and has been snoozin' since then. Harry the Hairy hates rain so he's stayed in.

Just after I posted this, Daisy was banging at the door wanting in. I expected that. ;)

Meerschaum strummel and bamboo shank! Now that is something you don't see everday! Wow!

I've enjoyed this pipe for many many years. I think it was my 3rd or 4th meer back in the day. Still loved and smokes burley like a champ! :)

Moving on to another long-term aged delight. Mc Clelland 2015 (Va/Per) in a Rattrays Olive Wood with extended bit. Been a while since i've indulged in this one, but was a favorite long ago.
