Relaxing after a wonderful small salad, a pound and a half of pork chops with a giant baked potato dinner. I also had a double egg ham and cheese open face sandwich. Dessert was a bowl of vanilla bean ice cream. A cold bottle of Boylan's Birch Beer was my drink. I'm at the last third of this bowl of year 2014 FVF in a straight smooth brown year 1923 Dunhill A billiard 60 patent March 9.15 with a tapered black vulcanite stem. This pipe is from the estate of David Cuneo. It's way too humid for coffee, so ice water and bergs is my drink. Braves are losing to the Angels. Sleepy Suzy is by my side. Molly Danger is with m'lady.

I love mornings where I’ve got the day off and nothing on my agenda. But I guess that’s how birthdays should go. Easing into the day smoking a delicious bowl of Salty Dogs in a Rattrays Goblin billiard with some nice, hot, coffee. ☕️ Hope you all have a great day!View attachment 402269
@VDL_Piper thats such a terrifying and sad experience and I’m sorry it happened. As others noted it’s good you were there even though the worst happened. May his family find peace and healing.
Happy Happy Bday @HeavyLeadBelly !

Setup Crew for Tomorrow's 4th, and inaugural smokes at new Picnic Table:

The planned Canada Day Picnic with my drop-in picnic was cancelled due to thunder, lightning, heavy rains and a tornado warning, of all things. So I decided to Celebrate with an open house tomorrow, on the 4th of July. Just finished the setup, and thought I'd give a prelude to my post for y'all tomorrow. We have lots of work to do to level the table, and make the whole thing look like a park setting, but we got things organized tonight.

Yah, I'm bushed, but thought you'd enjoy this prelude. Full details will be released tomorrow late, or perhaps Saturday, depending on the amount of time it takes me to process the pictures of the Celebration. Here's my main men, who did the prepwork and enjoyed their smokes, except for Ryan, shown first, who doesn't indulge, but loves the smell of the tobacco.

My Inaugural Smoke, a Kwiki Chocolate, with which I started this whole Nic Thing about a year and a half ago:

And Mike, with the longstem, and Dave in front. You've seen and heard a lot about Mike, but Dave is my next door neighbour and shooting buddy. He subbed for me at the range during open house, and ran the public "try me out for free" at the small bore range. Did a great job. A fine shooter, he'll be my right hand man at the in house, members only Field Target trial and demonstration, which looks like it'll happen in August. I'll be rarin' to go long before then, because I have to set up the course and instruct those who've never shot the discipline before. Dave will help me, and I'm betting he'll win the trial. He's very, very good!

Mike's smoking a long stem loaded, of course, with Smoker's Pride Vanilla Cavendish. This will all make way more sense when you see the post tomorrow or Saturday. Won't be around during the day, as it'll be the Glorious 4th in Prince George!! Yeah, that's my old Ford Econoline in the background. Been there for years. Won't get rid of it because it ticks too many people off, eh? Actually ran on propane. 1984 Vintage, I think. Don't remember.

Thanks for looking in. Gotta crash now. Exhausted. And A Great 4th of July to all of you!!

Falcon stuffed with GLP Maltese Falcon that I jarred back in 2020.
It has been a long time since I last smoked any of this. I didn't remember much about it except that I liked it (I have six tins of this in my cellar).
I still like it.
The blend has completely married and offers some pleasant nuances with a bright, slightly citrusy top end.
Not an all-day smoke for me but it could be a daily one. I'm moving this into my regular rotation for a while.

Old Wessex Brigade Campaign Flake in my trusty no-name meer. It cooled off here in Louisiana tonight due to the rainstorms (which were accompanied by some truly spectacular lightning, and one thunderbolt that sounded like it hit right in the back yard - I was sitting on the porcelain throne at the time - seriously!). A few musky toes out here, but they're not biting me. Yet.
