Now smoking year 2014 Edgeworth Ready Rubbed Match in a very much appreciated 1979 brown, slight bend grain etched flat front Stanwell Rego 969-48 (09) with a black vulcanite saddle stem. Sleepy Suzy is by my side. Molly Danger has spent most of the evening on m'lady's chair.

Prince George, British Columbia, Canada
Final Chapter, As Promised. I'm hoping you will find this wrap up to the Picnic Table story of July 4th as uplifting as the other was as frustrating and sad. I think you will.

When I moved up to Prince George, I bought a fine house on 2/3rds of an acre in suburbia, a corner lot well treed. I was younger then, and kept it up, gardened, mowed the lawn, repaired what had to be repaired, and had a full slate of students as well as my symphony job and two days a week in Vanderhoof where I developed a very fine amateur orchestra using personnel from both PG and Vanderhoof. Life was good. It was a family who, unfortunately split up, that gave Ricoh to me. I really didn't want him . . . but after several attempted givaways to others, I was begged to take him as the place where the mom and kids were going to wouldn't take the dog, and I was told that he'd have to be put down if I didn't. Couldn't let that happen, so reluctantly I had a dog.

We got along - Ricoh was as disobedient as I was obstinate, and he went everywhere I went. I soon enjoyed the whole scenario. Already middle aged, he first lost his sight (cataracts) but got along fine as so many blind dogs do. Then, after hearing one too many gunshots (I took him everywhere), I noticed that suddenly, he wasn't responding to my call (not that he ever did, but, this was different.

I now had a blind and deaf Shih-tsu, who was totally dependent on me. I was frequently told to put him down, but he loved to eat and had an incredible nose, so wouldn't consider it. However, there were problems - I could not let him alone in the yard, even on a cable, because . . . well, other more predatory animals just knew, and a time or two I had to run off foxes, weasels, and larger winged menaces. . So, I made alterations to my property (I'd long given up the domestic stuff and my place, although sturdy, became unkempt and overgrown.)

Because Ricoh so loved going to the Cottonwood Park Picnic area, where we played the "I take apart the muffin and you find the crumbs" game. He loved it and I did, as well. We were never apart after this.

So, I got the idea of turning my yard, now overgrown, into a mini-park. My neighbour Dave has a riding mower, and mowed pathways where I could walk Ricoh, and I encouraged other dog owners to use the pathways as well, and what was a disaster area became a neighbourhood place for dogs, kids and parents who'd pick the berries, apples and mushrooms that abounded in the fertilized little fantasy land. They loved the place (and still do!)

Rather than explain each picture, I'll just let you put it together, and run them as a sequence. Now, you won't see the paths and so on as are usually there, because it's been so wet and cold so far this year that Dave hasn't been able to make them yet this year. But you'll get the idea.

I'll make the final comments right near the end, when you'll see the raison d'etre of the picnic table, and I'll make my final comments. Here are the snaps, sans the smokers of the other day, in a bit of a random sequence.

Yah, the house needs work, but it's very sturdy - just needs to be re-cedared and . . . ahhh, you know. BTW, I've isolated the whole shebang so that you can't see much of the neighbourhood from within the little "park".

And Finally, the Picnic Table itself, placed over Ricoh's burial plot, in his favourite spot in the yard.

There is still lots of work to do - need to level and refinish the table itself, but it's already popular with my smokin' crowd, and it's nice to join my little canine buddy for a puff while he's sitting at my feet.

And yup, the kids will be back (have lots of friends with toddlers . . . . mostly ex-students lol), and I'm looking forward to lots of enjoyable times with pipes, cigars and good food and company. It's like a little fantasy land, with pet crows, squirrels, other travelling mutts, neighbours . . . .

As I said, I've had a grand life. And am still having one. And yes, I'm feeling much better today than yesterday, and will fell better tomorrow. And am now off of the antibiotics and bladder seems to be functioning just fine. Yeah, I know. Too much information. And now you know why I traded that Sage flyrod for the table, eh? Best deal I ever made.

Entirely tired of breaking in pipes, though . . . . I'll be getting onto that in upcoming posts in a day or two. Taking tomorrow totally off to make my first shopping trip to stock up on the food that I've run out of.

And now you know the whole story. Thanks for dropping in!

See ya'll soon! Crash time.

Half way through this bowl of year 2015 D&R A.B. Rimboche in an undated slight bend, smooth flame grain Wessex Standard egg with a brown accent on the black vulcanite saddle stem. Finished reading baseball box scores, and am waiting for Molly Danger to get out of the kitchen so I can feed whatever ferals are outside. Daisy the Feral Princess has been for several hours, mostly snoozin'. Sleepy Suzy is by my side with that "Why are you typing when I'm trying to snooze?" look.

Now smoking year 2016 D&R Two Timer Gold in a 1982 smooth straight Sasieni Ivory 105 Apple with a black vulcanite saddle stem. This was my first Sasieni. Bought it at my local Tinderbox for $9.95. With any luck, I'll end the day with this smoke.

Quite a rare tobacco. As far as I remember, this mixture is supposed to be a blend that represents the purest form of Burley tobacco, correct?

That is very kind of you to open your property to the neighborhood.
