At this point, SWR regular pipe tobacco is my choice of the codgers. Something refreshing about smoking a plain tobacco on occasion. Nice quail. We see a few in BC around Vancouver, but not farther north. Lotsa grouse though.

First night of camping. I used to be so good at this but rusty. Cooked a nice steak dinner over the open fire though and will smoke some Orlik GS in a Peterson Canadian.
Sutliff match Victorian in a Peterson Dracula 80s.
Near the last quarter of this bowl of year 2014 Orlik Golden Sliced in an early 20th century Gordon Special Bruyere 49 apple with a triangular shank and tapered black vulcanite stem.
Now smoking year 2022 unreleased Sutliff Brown Virginia Flake in a 1920s medium bend smooth dark brown BBB Umbra bulldog with a tapered black vulcanite stem with an orific bit. Ice water and bergs is my drink.

Almost finished smoking D&R Penhooker in a 1990 straight dark brown Commemorative reproduction of the 1890 Peterson Patent System 12393 stack billiard with a silver band and a bowed black acrylic 32 AB long stem p-lip.
Today I enjoyed the culmination of several days of experimenting with dried corn silk. I stripped the silk from four ears of fresh corn a couple of days ago, dried it in the oven at low heat for a couple hours and chopped it into about 1” chunks. Then I mixed in some left over OTC burley and cherry aromatic and jarred and heated that again at 150 f for an hour and sealed it for a day. It smelled great when I opened it for the final drying. During smoking the mixture felt hotter in the bowl, but the smoke didn’t seem any different in temperature than normal tobacco. It smelled great and tasted pretty darn good as well. My dad said he started smoking in the 1930s as a young teenager with a home-made cob pipe and dried corn silk so I thought I’d give it a try. Smoked it in an old mystery (probably a Wally Frank of LHS second) full bent Red Root.

Now smoking Wilke No. 72 in a pre-1974 dark brown straight Larus & Brother Co. Signature billiard with a nickel band and a tapered black vulcanite stem with the initials LCR on the top of the stem. This blend was smoked by Walter Cronkite. Just fed Sleepy Suzy, and am going to clean a few pipes. Watching Chimes of Midnight starring Orson Welles.

Don't know that I'll ever come across an Ash pipe, but very curious to know what proper breaking in would be.!This evening I decided to have a pipe in spite of my whining earlier that I was smoked out with all of this breaking in stuff. A day or two ago I posted my morning smoke with a McQueen miniature, "The Prospector." Tonight I'll take a tongue break smoking some heavy lat in Pirate Kake, in the big "Prospector.". Decided, while there is still enough light to post a picture of the miniature with the large version of their "Prospector." Miniature is in cherry wood, the large version is in well broken in ash, and is a great smoker, one of my three ash pipes. Ruined 2 because of sloppy break in; I was at a stage I didn't know the problems with breaking in ash.
Tried to show the difference in bowl sizes. The big guy has a 12" stem and has over 3x the capacity of the miniature. Even then, the bowl content is dwarfed by my big bowled Savinelli, Peterson and Brigham, which hold about twice as much as the big "Prospector." Both McQueens have a lot of wood in their bowls, and smoke beautifully with the bowl in hand. Very comfortable.
Getting hand cramps from trying to manipulate the pipes to show content and features that would be of interest to the knowledgeable forum viewers. Gotta get off my butt and take out the prop table and proper lighting to photograph my collection. It's in the works, or at least in my mind in planning stage.
I'll enjoy the PK in the big fella tonight I assure you. It's a known combination!
Halfway through a wonderful smoke of a Stanwell for Poul Olsen lovat full of my latest favorite mix: ‘20 Kendal Plug and ‘18 Black XX Twist.
Slicing the rope as thin as a Sicilian slices garlic rubs out to a beautiful shag. The plug is a little drier, so hard to get as thin, but very tasty.
