This is my 3rd smoke in my kaywoodie Saxon natural bulldog. The first two were with Virginias and the pipe smoked extremely hot and harsh.View attachment 155898 I decided to try some haunted bookshop and I’m experiencing the same thing. Has anyone had any issues like this in the modern kaywoodies? It’s a shame because it’s a beautiful looking pipe! Happy smokes all.
I have a modern Kaywoodie. No, it burns just fine. However, some pipes require a clear carbon layer, in my experience, before they can be smoked however. In those cases, smoke using the Frank method of packing until the pipe is clearly broken in. I would bet you will see a difference in the temp of the pipe. Also, try using some English blends with a bit higher level of latakia for the next few smokes.

The ‘ol Mercury is on the rise today and thru the week; headed north of 100 deg F.
Found some shade and with a lite breeze it’s not bad. Still smoking the “new” Dublin Meer. Packed with:
45/45 mix of C&D -17 Yorktown and 21 Izmir Turkish
a wee pinch of Rbn cut Perique minced in.
Glass of sweetened ice tea mixed with Kombucha. re-reading a book I read last winter.
The mixture is very tasty!

There's just something about the smell of the rain that, to me, pairs nicely with this Sutliff Krumble Cake English #1 and a black coffee. Trying out a Vauen charcoal filter for the first time as I've never used filters before. Doesn't seem to be reducing the flavor too much now that I'm smoking, but on the char light, it seemed like it was going to drop it a lot more. There is some minor reduction, but not bad. I think in the future though, I won't be using filters with this blend.

Almost a third of the way through this bowl of year 2015 Mac Baren Virginia #1 in a straight black 1925 Dunhill patent shell Canadian 33 with a tapered black vulcanite stem. Rain showers drowned out my second set of walking reps again. Third time this week. Watching the Braves-Nats game.
