Previously, Viprati in a now-dedicated Bjarne Nielsen Handmade tomato/ball hybrid. Who knew straight Cavendish and Perique could taste so good? Sometimes a pipe takes to a blend nearly immediately and it’s a match made in heaven. Other times it takes many years for a pipe to discover its dedicated blend. This, the latter, is one of those times. Those who believe in, and have experienced, the pipe-destiny, dedicated-pipe approach will know what I mean.

Currently, I am smoking my beloved McClelland Drama Reserve from my obviously finite stash, in a Stanwell No.11. Might be a number of years before I open another tin. So I’m savoring this. Only 6 tins left in my “cellar”, and then, for me, it’s potentially gone forever. I feel like there could have been an alternate, and more positive exit strategy for McClelland given their fan base and the quality of their blends. But what do I know. Could certain tobaccos no longer be attained? Sure. But let’s not make the perfect the enemy of the good. Were the principals more than ready for retirement? Sure. But so was Carole and that seems to have worked out ok. But what do I know.

What do I know? Oh, I know. I know I’ve got a box full of McClelland Oriental mixtures that I’m going to smoke through until the day I die. My sons will smuggle it into the hospital for me if needed. And then, I’ll bequeath the rest to one of you sorry bastards. So there’s that.

Please understand we’re using it in the old English sense applied to the violent Victorian street gangs and not towards servicemen and women for whom we have the greatest of respect, especially from that generation.
Completely understand. I am also a member of the Victoria Servicemen's Club in London and my stays there are inspirational as to our American/British ties that bind. So many died for the freedoms we share. Go football!

Of all the materials out of which pipes were made asbestos has got to be up there as one of the strangest-
Early 20th century JACKSON'S PATENT REAL ASBESTOS with white metal band

Smoking a pipe made of asbestos is only one of many oddities from back in the day ... maybe on a par with Dr. Batty's Asthma Cigarettes which were "not recommended for children under six"

Just lit up some recent vintage (Jan ‘20) Cairo, in, speaking of pipe dedication from my previous post, a simple Peterson Shannon billiard (No. 106); simple, albeit with a gorgeous grain and a rubber stem, that has been dedicated to this blend, exclusively, for nearly a decade. For me, at least, it doesn’t get much better.
Also a fan of Cairo. I've tried just about all the major eras of it lol. Just finished up a tin from '09. Still have a couple tins from the original release and '03.

Relaxing after a wonderful salad, wild caught blue catfish and sugar snap peas dinner with strawberries for dessert. I'm almost half way through this bowl of year 2013 Dunhill Flake in a straight smooth 1960 Dunhill DRA 137 group 4 root briar canted dublin with a tapered black vulcanite stem. Community Coffee, neat, is my drink. Watching the Braves-Marlins game.
