A quarter of the way through this bowl of Seattle Pipe Club Give Me Liberty in a straight smooth medium brown pre-1920 straight Marechal Ruchon & Cie. Royale apple with a sterling silver band and a tapered black vulcanite stem. Watching an episode of Nova.

So this is the first pipe I ever smoked. It is a Hilson Apple out of Belgium, and as was the case with a lot of the Hilson pipes it came with a meer lined bowl. This had been my Grandfather's, and I snuck it out of the drawer in the living room side table it had been rolling around for most of my childhood when I was 17. That was1987. I sent it out to Jim Anderson in Louisville (you may know him from the shows- Muletown, Chicago, St. Louis, etc.) for a clean up last month. Jim did a fantastic job with it, and put in a new tortoise shell stem on it for me. If you look closely you can still see where an old house-mate's dog got it into his mouth.

Tried it yesterday with some Old Fashioned from WO Larsen.
