Opening up a sealed box of 2020 Middleton's Cherry Blend tonight as a belated birthday present to myself, and smoking it in a Country Gentleman cob.

Long, long ago in the late 90's the very first pipe tobacco I ever smoked was Middleton's Cherry Blend, and ever since I really got into pipe smoking 3 years or so ago I had been looking for a cherry pipe blend that tasted like the discontinued Middleton's Cherry I remembered. I never found one that quite measured up to my memories of what my first pipe experience tasted like, but I was successful in recently acquiring a sealed pouch of Middleton Cherry from one of the last production runs in 2020!

Smoking it again for the first time in 25+ years now I can safely say, "This is the cherry blend I was looking for all this time." The flavor is a touch muted compared to what I remember (5 years of age will do that to an aromatic), but the taste is definitely the same as I remember and what my brain has always thought of cherry pipe tobacco being supposed to taste like! The only difference is that with 3 years of pipe smoking experience under my belt it doesn't give me tongue bite now like it did when I was young lol

I do believe this will be the most cherished blend in my entire cellar. puffy

Getting ready to watch UFC Fight Night 252, Henry Cejudo vs. Yadong Song, live from Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle. Having Cornell & Diehl Small Batch Folklore (2022, 805/1000) in an unbranded, unmarked, Magnum-sized Swan Neck LC (Large Curve) with a horn stem with an orific bit; this pipe is most likely French in origin, and may be from the late 19th or early 20th Century—it is curve/step drilled, has a bone tenon, and a cork mortise. I picked up five of these Muxiang Churchwarden pipe stands via AliExpress and they’re working out nicely with my gargantuan pipes.

Today, I just received my complimentary copies of a book I designed (also did the cover illustration). Very happy with the production. The book is based on interviews my late friend, Paul Nelson, did with Leonard Cohen and Lucinda Williams, edited by my friend, Kevin Avery.

Unusual late night pipe for me, but hey, IPSD! Peretti 150th in the little clay, before bed. Delightful smoke but i've said it before and it is still the case: the jar note on this 150th, for me, is KELP. Strangest thing.

Now there's a thing: me too. Sitting and smoking a pipe that's as old as a lifetime or longer, and pondering who else was smoking that same pipe and thinking about this or that war, scandal, depression, disaster or whatever, and finding comfort and consolation in his smoke despute it all, gives me an additional dimension of enjoyment and an added sense of tranquility.
I share the exact same sentiment. Thank you for putting it into words. As much as I enjoy cigars, the connection to history via a pipe is what really drew me to pipe smoking. I sincerely hope that once I've laid my pipe down for the last time there will be another to take my place and continue to enjoy and contemplate as I have 🙂

KBV Mr. Christian’s Brown Flek in some absolutely freezing wind for the first bowl in the new M. Cay meer. I think others have said it best that while this stuff might not be mind-blowing, it is still nice all the same. I feel quite alright knowing that I squirreled away a pound of it with the blend going away soon. It’ll be something nice and simple when I want it, and I’m sure when I crack into the stuff down the line that I certainly won’t be disappointed. May it be warmer wherever you all are smoking, gang.
