Those pipes waited 135 years to get to your hands and you're not going to smoke them?I have a little conundrum. I won this 1886 Charles Maas pipe set the other day when the person who outbid me by a fair amount couldn’t pay. Recherche means excellence, the finest choice, even obscure depending on the context so these pipes must be among the best produced by Maas. Anyway it turns out that “carefully smoked” meant not smoked at all and I don’t know if I should use them. It almost feels like I’d be desecrating something beautiful. I’d appreciate your opinions please because all I do at the moment is stare at them. View attachment 65065View attachment 65066View attachment 65067View attachment 65066

Horn stems aren't my thing. Beautiful pipes though.
I vote to smoke those beautiful pipes. I think you should still do a thread on it. Enjoy! Thanks for the kind words and advice on the pipes, I should have opened up a different thread really. I might leave it to fate, if I can find a cheroot holder to replace the missing one I’ll keep the set pristine (how many others can there be?), if not I’ll use them. I’m not in a rush and I feel lucky enough to have got them in the first place. Pondering the matter over with Exclusiv Black Cherry in a Nording Sailor.
What I really like is taking advice from the Devil ?I vote to smoke those beautiful pipes. I think you should still do a thread on it. Enjoy!
Go ahead and smoke them! is my opinion...I have a little conundrum. I won this 1886 Charles Maas pipe set the other day when the person who outbid me by a fair amount couldn’t pay. I'd say, smoke 'em, but then I'm not a collector for collection sake.I have a little conundrum.
