I have a little conundrum. I won this 1886 Charles Maas pipe set the other day when the person who outbid me by a fair amount couldn’t pay. Recherche means excellence, the finest choice, even obscure depending on the context so these pipes must be among the best produced by Maas. Anyway it turns out that “carefully smoked” meant not smoked at all and I don’t know if I should use them. It almost feels like I’d be desecrating something beautiful. I’d appreciate your opinions please because all I do at the moment is stare at them. image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg

I'd say you stumbled onto a great piece of history. I wouldn't smoke them, but they're yours to do with what you will. The fact that they're unsmoked is really something. Excellent find

Beautiful! I understand your hesitation but since I’m not so much a collector as a smoker, I’d smoke em. Congratulations on snagging those beauties!

Beautiful Pipes! Smoke em!? Without question or hesitation would be my advice. I'd treat the bowl of the briar though, before smoking it. Water & honey has always worked for me.
Good afternoon. ODF/Kendal Gold in a Peterson 317.
