My 3rd generatiion (Great-Great) Grandfather, James Sumpter Hanna, was captured by Union forces in the action at Fort Donelson, Feb. 16, 1862.
He served in the 26th Mississippi Infantry Regiment, Company E. Six months later, he was released in an exchange, went back into CSA service with the same reformed regiment, and went on to other actions.

Luckily for me, he survived the war.
Interesting to hear of your ancestor's involvement in the battle. I appreciate you posting this.

I had several ancestors (with 11th, 49th and 50th TN Infantry) that were there and with the surrender of the fort, they all were sent to prison at Camp Douglas, in Chicago. I'm certain that would have been your ancestor's destination also as all non-officer POW's were sent to Douglas. One of my GG uncles died in early May of '62 at Ft. Douglas, from Pneumonia. The others survived to be paroled at Port Hudson later. One of those uncles was later killed in Nov. of '64 at the Battle of Franklin, TN. and another was shot in the face and horribly disfigured (but lived) at the same battle.

PS52 in a Baronet Bruyere 121EX Pot.

I’m getting back into pipes again after smoking cigars for a bit. Just discovered PS52, and it’s great in a large bowl. This Baronet smokes surprisingly good considering how little it cost. Don’t judge my stem, I didn’t know about vulcanite stem care when I first got into pipes back in 2008 :P

Relaxing after a wonderful salad, cod and snow peas dinner with strawberries for dessert. I'm smoking and beta testing KBV Handsome Stranger P in a medium bend fumed tan crackled year 2020 Ahmet Govem reverse calabash meerschaum with a military mount silver band and black acrylic stem. Community Coffee, neat, is my drink. The ferals came in from the cold and are eating. Molly Danger is snoozin' on m'lady 's lap, so she's not aware that they are in. Sleepy Suzy is by my side.

Correct. My Great-Great Grandfather enlisted as a private in Tishomingo County, MS in Sept 1861. He had just turned 17. And yes, he was sent to Camp Douglas until his exchange release in Sept 1862.
By the end of the War, he had received a couple of field promotions, and mustered out/retired as a Sergeant upon dissolution of the Confederate forces.

That repair looks great. Was it difficult to do? I have a J04 with a cracked mortise too.
Howdy,
No, not too bad. I posted about the repair under pipe repair thread:

I used needle nose pliers and a Dremel with a cutting wheel and finished up with a table top disk sander. Took me about 40 minutes.
If you have any questions, let me know.

Now smoking and beta tasting KBV Handsome Stranger C in a 1980s White Pipe straight, smooth octagonal paneled billiard meerschaum with an acrylic yellow cream colored saddle stem. Tomato the Brave did a little Norton the Nosey after he ate, meaning that he followed me around the house until I sat down. He's by my feet now.

Just finished brushing and shaking off the juvenile Magnolias and we’re now sitting on 6 inches of powder but I think it finally stopped for today.
Another Americano and a Double Shot at that ☕☕️ !

It took me all this time to realize when you said "Americo", you meant coffee style, not the vermouth and Campari cocktail! Shows you where my tastes run . . . . .

Enjoyed a tasty golden delicious apple, and am not far from finishing this bowl of KBV Burley Beta in a medium bend smooth paneled 2017 Celebi Turkish Meerschaum with a tapered gold and black swirl acrylic stem. Ismail made this meer for me as a token of friendship.
