My New Toy: A few months ago,
@PaulRVA suggested I get myself a
Savinelli Bing. I do have the Avorio, and finally bit the bullet about a month ago and bought the Bing. Rather than whine about the break in process, I kept it under wraps, (well, I guess I did whine a bit a few days ago), and have had about 6 smokes of
Captain Black Dark and
Borkkum Riff Dark Cavendish. It's pretty much there.
It's simply a fabulous smoker, right in line with my Peterson Tavern Rhodesian And the Mr Brog Old Army Olive. . . . about as good as it gets. It's a sipper, a company pipe . . . . have a feeling it's going to get the Balkan assignment for pleasant evening conversation.
A bit of
Skippable Drivel below the picture.
A bit of
Skippable Drivel: First of all, a picture of my two Savinelli pipes. For me, they're high ticket items, and as I mentioned in an earlier post, I'm going to concentrate on building a more balanced collection of pipes, 'cause the hunting and fishing days are about over except in summer and early fall. The old bones are rebelling, and I'm more homebound now, it seems. The Bing is a welcome addition - not a cavern like the Avorio, my Brigham Tundra, Peterson System Standard, or Miss Piggy . . . . but it's got a generous medium plus bowl that fits right into my plans for it - a company and sipping pipe for evening conversation.
I'm going to concentrate on basic pipe shapes I don't have, and different woods and countries of origin. Keeping it modest, but hopefully interesting. A few examples will be arriving in the next few days.
A bit of excitement on the health front the past day and a half - lost a bit of control with my left hand, figured I had a mini-stroke and went to the hospital as a safety precaution. I've had arithmea all my life, and yes, they led to my series of strokes 15 years ago in which I lost my right eye.
The problem was solved this time in quick order with a prescription that really did the trick. After a couple of days, I'm back feeling better than I did before, so all is well. I'm sure other guys of my age know the drill - excitement every day, eh? In any case, all is well and it's smoke time. Have a great Thursday night, eh?
