Milverton was a dreadful man. Everything a good, manly Victorian gentleman would despise. I'm frankly surprised that Peterson's named a pipe after him, rather than - say - a baddie with more cachet, like Irene Adler (the one woman Holmes really admired and almost loved). What can we expect next? A Peterson's Moriarty? Or a Moran? (And why do so many of Doyle's villains' names begin with an M?)

At least we have a Mycroft covered as a non villain
I will say Milverton is important and we have Moriarty covered with the Professor but Moriarty would’ve been a cooler name

Some more Rattray's Stirling Flake, this time in the veteran Makonde Rhodesian Meer. Smoked far better than yesterday when it was only roughly rubbed and left dry a little for half an hour then smoked in a new Meer. At that time I thought: "Meh! Brassy, ashy, a one-trick pony - how on earth could anyone compare it favourably with Peterson's Irish Flake?" Well, this time, after drying some more (overnight) and some more assiduous rubbing, it smoked beautifully and allowed a slow, quiet cadence... by mid-bowl, some mysterious alchemical process had transmuted the brass to gold and amber tangerine marmalade and occasional hints of caramel. It will still take some getting to know, so next time I'll try it in a briar... by the way, the ashdigger/tamper is a gem-encrusted silver masterpiece from my not-so-secret Santa of this SomBesthsFest, @cosmicfolklore. (May his shadow never grow less).

Late morning, relaxing on the back porch at Mom’s house in rural north central Alabama—about 20 miles west of Talladega.
Overcast, but warm enough to be wearing shorts and a T-shirt.

Enjoying C&D Engine #382 in an early 1970’s Comoy’s Guildhall shape #607, of which I’ve never seen another example. Not sure how uncommon this shape is, but it’s certainly not your average bent billiard.

As far a the tobacco blend goes, it is fast becoming one of my daily favorites in a briar or a cob. But then again, I happen to like deer tongue quite a bit, so I’m quirky like that.

I think I finally have this mobile photo resizing thing figured out, so here goes—

Blech. This tobacco n' me don't jibe. Maybe a good room note, but the aromatic flavor is not there at all. Just bland, flat flavor with no sweetness....

I bought this on a whim last time I was visiting Lowcountry.

Next time I reach for a new tobacco, I'll see what @JimInks has to say about it.

Here's his two-star review from 2014:

"It burns a little hot, but not enough to give tongue bite, unless you puff like a steam engine. It gets very little support from the toasted, nutty burley, but then again, the dark cherry topping is expected to beat it into submission, and does. The grassy, citrusy Virginia forms the base, but it, too, is in the background. The unsweetened black cavendish provides a little brown sugar. The nic-hit is very mild. Burns at a reasonable pace with a fairly consistent flavor. Leaves a little moisture in the bowl, and requires a few relights. Has a pleasant, short lived after taste. Can be an all day smoke, even though the cherry topping does lack a little depth.

Robinson's Pipe Blend in a 2014 Basil Meadows smooth slight bend squashed tomato with an aluminum band and a black pearl acrylic stem in the military mount style.
