Perchance the defacatory comment was to the effect that the repast offered was not up to the standard to which His Highness would wish to become accustomed?
In spite of the defactory comment, I love the little sucker. I actually spoil him in a culinary way . . . . prepare his food carefully because he has only one tooth left and he has to gum things to death. Maybe he has a molar or two, but i don't dare put my finger in his mouth to find out! 🤣

Yesterday Evening's Smoke, with buddy Mike. We both smoked Smoker's Pride Vanilla Cavendish, me in the Brigham Tundra he gave me, and Mike in a McQueen Russet I gave him. Kinda an early Christmas exchange. We both agreed this is the best tobacco Smoker's Pride offers - love it! Mild and reliable, perfect for a long evening smoke.

Both being music fans to the max (he was the PGSO's recording engineer during the years I was Concertmaster), we decided that Sibelius's 7th Symphony (my personal favourite of the Great 7) was the best choice. I honestly don't understand why we in North America don't play the Sibelius symphonies. They are much, much better than a host of 20th century inferiors that get hackneyed to death. And American Roy Harris should be getting much more programming, too imho. Sibelius is the towering symphonist of the 20th century. And most of my symphony colleagues feel the same.

We encored with Debussy's "La Mer" and closed with his "Dances for Harp and Orchestra." A grand evening for sure!

Well, I did load up the old codger Meer with some Hal O' The Wynd and took it out with me so that I could enjoy it with a pint in the yard of the Blue Boar after doing the last of the Christmas shopping, but there was no time to enjoy the long, untrammeled smoke it deserves, and no time since... :-( but today's bright spot (apart from finishing the Christmas shopping) was the arrival of the old banded-coloured Meer cutty with a new mouthpiece fitted by good old Mike Billington of Blakemar Briars... the only suitable stem he had was a half inch too short but it doesn't materially affect the balance and above all, it's properly smokable once more. I intend to ceremoniously use it with Peterson's Irish Flake on Christmas morning. Meanwhile, does anyone have any tips on what to do with the old broken amber mouthpiece?

What was the slump on that pour?
Fiber or rebar ? Looks nice.
Thanks- 1/2” aggregate, regular 3500psi mix ordered at a 5”slump (I do 4” if we’re doing bowls or other sloped structures). 1/2” because all our stuff is rebar reinforced decks over scuppers or catch basins and the 1/2” gets around the bar better.
Crew did the forming and mat yesterday-there’s ≈400 linear feet of #4 bar in there.
Biggest trick we’ve learned is how to form and still get the forms out after mud cures over the weekend.

Back to pipes and tobacco, after we had the pour done and mud where I wanted it, I left it to the guys.
After a nice proscuittini and capacolla sub, I’m back to inspecting with the Ropp and Irish Flake/SG Black XX.

My morning smoke - Borkum&Riff Cherry Cavendish in my soft meer miniature, which is starting to color pretty good. I smoke B&K Cherry Cavendish in the morning two or three times a month. Like other B&R tobaccos I've smoked, it has real substance to it, not like other cherry aros I've smoked. Lots of Virginias, maybe? In any case, the Scandinavians are sturdy people, and their tobaccos seem to be the same. I have several Finnish and Danish friends, and I also love their cuisine. Looking forward to trying Icelandic Hakaarl one day! Rotted then fermented gurry shark I understand.

Did a set of walking reps on this chilly, windy day, and am close to finishing this bowl of year 2016 D&R Three Sails in a slight bent black pattern etched 1977 Lorenzo Lorsan Sigma level top billiard with a gray swirl acrylic saddle stem. Tomato the Brave walked part of two laps with me while Harry the Hairy stood driveway guard. Abner the Eager followed me to the door on the last lap, and he's back inside now.
