Getting ready to sit down and smoke some C&D Bijou in my Amphora X-Tra 732 Pickaxe. Anthony Bourdains Kitchen Confidential will be my read.

Excellent read and a favorite book of any line cook.

Working as a line cook for 18 years, the book is fairly accurate in describing how lifers are generally a motley crew of pirates that often can't function in a typical 9 to 5 society and take everything to excess. After all, if one is good then 10 is better.

Thankfully, I was able to hang up my apron when my daughter was born (after moonlighting for about 10 years while establishing myself elsewhere). You learn a lot about humanity in restaurant life while seeing all sorts of people/personalities/backgrounds both with staff and customers.

I'm a firm believer everyone should work in a restaurant for at least one year and miss it to some extent. However, cooking is a young person's game and I am thankful to have gotten out.

Just passing the quarter mark on this bowl of year 2014 MacBaren Three Nuns in the first pipe Trever Talbot made when he went to France many years ago. It's a smooth straight Algerian briar Lumberman with a long shank and a black vulcanite saddle stem, unbranded.

Cool but no wind tonight and quiet. Smoking in the Golden Square Meerschaum lined bowl, straight smooth billiard; my homemade blend consisting of latakia, izmir, and a variety of virginias. I am impressed with my handiwork! At first latakia heavy, then the virginias shown through with some citrus notes. Orientals have not made themself known yet. But quite lovely! 😍☺️

Relaxing after a wonderful salad, chicken legs and sugar snap peas dinner with strawberries for dessert. I've about a third of a bowl left of year 2013 Capstan Blue RR in a 2015 Ryan Alden quarter bend burgundy sandblasted Queen of Hearts freehand with a black acrylic saddle stem. Community Coffee, neat, is my drink. Watching Lone Shot starring Clark Gable and Ava Gardner with a small role by William Conrad.
