Relaxing after a wonderful salad, steel head trout, and snow peas dinner with cherries for dessert. I'm smoking year 2012 Rolando’s Own in a smooth straight early ‘60s Lane era “William Conrad” Charatan Executive Extra Large stretch apple with diagonal channel cuts on the lower right and left of the bowl along with a black vulcanite double comfort saddle stem. Getting ready to clean some pipes.

Another first timer today, Sutliff Creme Brulee in my MM Country Gent. In all honesty, I was a bit apprehensive at first, just laying it out on a paper towel. Holy PG, Batman! I mean, it made Captain Black Royal look like dry tinder by comparison, no joke. I let it dry for almost three hours, and it barely seemed to change texture at all. The tin note was off-putting too; my wife liked it, but I found it artificial and chemical-y. Honest to God, it's as if the surface of the tobacco was glistening with a PG coating. Never seen anything like it. Left a collage of brown dots on the paper towel square too.

Anyone get through my novel?

Fortunately, the smoke was VERY pleasant. Took some cajoling with the flame at first, but once I got through the first quarter, it behaved very nicely, and didn't go out once more. A little dottle, but surprisingly little moisture at cleanup time. Moral of the story: don't judge a book blend by its cover tin note.

Bird report: Everyone showed up today, save for the red-tailed hawk. Must be the room note!

I know I'm a day early, but wishing everyone a...

If you want to retain the blue finish, it might be a good idea to regularly wax the stummel after use. I have seen and read a number of instances where the blue finish has worn away from normal use within a year.
This man speaks the truth.

I received the pipe below for Christmas and took the photo in July. Note, I generally only smoke weekends.

It's a great smoker and has character, but I wouldn't purchase one as a result.

Going to have Prince Albert (newer batch from the Dominican Republic) in a Dinant Prince Albert Figurative Clay Commemorative/Souvenir pipe from Belgium with a horn (orific) and cherry(?) stem, circa 1914, depicting the Belgian prince, not Edward VII. This is one of my dedicated Prince Albert pipes, even though it’s not the same prince as depicted on the tin.

The tin in this photo is the second version of the pocket tin from 1913–1938 with a hinged lid (the first version from 1909–1913 said “NOW KING,” and was changed to “CRIMP CUT” from 1910–1913). The notched lid was introduced in 1938.

I have a sealed tin, late 60s early 70s I believe. I wanted to open, rehydrate and smoke it, but I was told it would be like smoking paper. LOL 😆

So I’ve never opened it... 🤔

Just finished smoking Wilke Lizzie Blood Virginia in a straight black with burgundy undertone sandblasted early 1960s Lane era Charatan 420 billiard with a tapered black vulcanite stem. An apple follows this smoke. Community Coffee, neat, is my drink.
