I am happy to say it is entirely possible. Clenching is slightly uncomfortable but can be done. If you are not clenching then it is not much different from a p-lip.

Smoking some Daughters & Ryan SJ Rimboche in a Peterson Rhodesian with upside down stem in a military mount

Next time try the bowl upside down , good way to give a meer some color ?

I don't own a p-lip so I did the upside down stem thing a few times when tongue bite was an issue. I don't clinch anyway because I apparently drool too much. While seeming odd, it kind of helped, well... hurt less anyway.

I enjoyed smoking Prince Albert all day ... wrapped a bunch of Christmas presents and old familiar PA seemed appropriately familiar for that ... but I needed to change blends, change pipes.

Working on a long, slow smoke with a Savinelli Sistina 316 KS loaded from an old, old jar of Dunhill My Mixture 965.

Relaxing after a wonderful salad, chicken legs and sugar snap peas dinner with a scoop of Dutch chocolate ice cream for dessert. A third of the way through this bowl of smoking Angler's Dream in a 2018 natural smooth medium bend Peterson 03 apple silver spigot military mount with a tapered black acrylic fish tail stem. Just got this pipe today.

Feeling like something with some oomph! Whole leaf blend. Ribbon cut.

50% kentucky
25% perique
10% black stoved red virginia
10% black stoved bright virginia
5% latakia

Dark, spicy, rich and smoky. With a little caramel sweetness from the bright stoved and the red stoved gives some fruity tang to accent the perique. I'm really enjoying my blends lately with 5% latakia, just adds a touch of richness and depth and makes things a little more creamy.

Through a Preben Holm Harcourt freehand.

Just passing the quarter mark on this bowl of D&R Penhooker Silver in a 1990 straight dark brown Commemorative reproduction of the 1890 Peterson Patent System 12393 stack billiard with a silver band and a bowed black acrylic 32 AB long stem p-lip. First time smoking this wonderful pipe. Ice water and bergs is my drink. Watching the Laurel and Hardy marathon on TCM.
