What started as a joke turned into a much appreciated Christmas gift from creator of art, maker of pipes, baker of fruit cakes, cultivator of tobacco and all around renaissance man, Mr. Joshua Whitehead.
So, this afternoon, I’m enjoying a sizeable slice of Josh’s homemade fruit cake with spiced Chai Tea, and then a bowl of Josh’s homegrown, dark-fired Virginia blend in a Tonni Nielsen brandy. I wish we had Smell-O-Net, because the aroma is wonderful in here. The fruitcake smells like brandy and gingerbread (though Josh assures me that there’s no brandy in the recipe), the tobacco smells like licorice and bourbon and the Chai smells like vanilla, cardamom and orange.
The Virgina slices were fire-cured over cherry and briar. Smells like licorice and bourbon, but it's all-natural and smooth as butter. The appearance alone is enough to make your mouth water.
