Getting ready to watch the broadcast of UFC Fight Night: Johnny Walker vs. Zhang Mingyang that took place in Shanghai, China; the Prelims originally aired at 3:00 am this morning and the Main Card at 6:00 am, but I was sleeping, so I’m catching up with the fights now. Having Seattle Pipe Club Hogshead in an Unbranded, Rusticated, Octagonal Paneled Magnum. This 10" behemoth sports a 1.125" wide chamber; in terms of depth, just about my entire index finger can fit. Being eight-sided, with a huge chamber, makes it a perfect UFC pipe for me—this pipe usually provides seven or eight hours of smoking time with a single chamber load of tobacco, which covers the prelims, main card and post show coverage. Sometimes it submits me and has me tapping out from a nic hit before smoking all of its contents.

Relaxing after a wonderful salad, chicken legs and green beans dinner with strawberries for dessert. Then, I smoked a bowl of the last of my open stash of year 2012 Dan Tobacco Treasures of Ireland: Limerick in a straight smooth dark brown year 1912 Hall & Fitzgerald cased HFB billiard with a tapered black vulcanite stem and orific bit.

Currently, I'm near the finish of this bowl of year 2015 Mac Baren Virginia #1 in a straight black 1925 Dunhill patent shell Canadian 33 with a tapered black vulcanite stem. Community Coffee, neat, is my drink. Been watching the Braves-Mets game with Sleepy Suzy by my side. Tomato the Brave was in earlier to eat, and lay on my feet for about half an hour before he wanted out.

Good day, colleague.
Could you please tell me how a meerschaum pipe actually smokes? Yesterday I was looking at one on a website and I’ve been considering getting one for quite some time. Are there any hidden pitfalls or things I should be aware of before buying?IMG_5361.jpeg

I had a nice bowl of C&D Bijou in my MM wizard cobbit.

Trying to decide if this or Capstan Blue flake is my favorite. OGS is also a contender.

I can’t resist a picture of my piping pal, Duncan.

Just popped a relatively fresh tin of Bijou, love that scent. Also, Duncan is insanely cute, very good dog right there!

Someone is burning something petroleum-based around here so no smoke for me this evening  however, I am really digging what you folks are smoking, and how you are smoking it! I may have to chew on some brown bogie to scratch the itch…
I’m also not able to have a pipe tonight but am still waiting for resolution to the cliffhanger @Roach1 left us with regarding the crispy tobacco! Is it worth smoking or just taking a few bowls to figure it out? I once bought some Peterson De Luxe Navy Rolls that were a few years old, only to find the seal was compromised and tobacco was completely dry. It was stored in a local tobacconist’s shop so it wasn’t moldy or anything but I could not find a way to get good flavor out of it and eventually tossed about half the tin.

"In the immortal words of Julius Caesar...I left, I did nothing, I returned." -Larry David

In my extended absence from the WAYS thread, I made it through a bad illness, two deaths in the family, and a computer hard drive death (lost very little, with the notable exception of all my pipe photos, so until I get around to redoing those, you're all shit out of luck). But the important thing is, I'm back. Break out the Manischewitz, bubelah...it's party time! 🥴

Today's bowl was Peter Stokkebye Luxury Navy Flake in a Stefano Rhodesian, paired with a can of Sam Smith organic lager, while playing some cards out on the deck with wifey. My earlier Scrabble loss was avenged via an evisceration administered in both gin rummy and crazy eights. Another great smoke, especially with the smell of wet sage all around me after this morning's monsoon rain. 9/10

Bird report: House finch, California towhee, California scrub-jay, American crow, California quail, Red-tailed hawk, Oak titmouse, Mountain chickadee, White-breasted nuthatch, Sharp-shinned hawk, Northern flicker, Hairy woodpecker, Bushtit, Spotted towhee, and Western bluebird. A full cast today, in other words.

Glad to be back. I assume there's no punishment for going AWOL, except for the one week in the pillory, yes? 😛

Enjoyed a tasty golden delicious apple, and a few unsalted peanuts, and am a quarter of the way through this bowl of year 2014 Strang in a 2003 smooth light brown medium bend straight grain Ardor Venere Extra signed by Dorelio Rovera Dublin with a black acrylic saddle stem. Ice water and bergs is my drink.

2nd voyage with the *very* simple, DIY hardwood pipe, again with John Bull True English.

Drink is Tamnavulin Single Malt Scotch, white-wine cask finished. 🥃

A nice, cooler evening/night in Texas. Today was still humid, but slightly less so -- was still hot. 🔥

First off, nice drink choice. I am very curious about your pipe there, dangerously curious, like one of those chimpanzees from that scene in 2001: A Space Odyssey. Do you mind sharing what wood you’ve used?

Ha ha, I see, so you wanna break things, I get it. I cannot emphasize the word "simple" enough. I literally took a hardwood dowel from the hardware store and started drilling holes. My guess is Birch, but I do not know. It may be toxic. This may be my last post. 😹

The bamboo stem is also just the gardening bamboo support sticks from said hardware store. Pretty easy to drill out the soft center with a long 3mm bit. Should I be embarrassed to share this? I really just wanted to see if I could make something smokeable. And I did!

The hardwood plug in the bottom, also of unknown species, is from an old rolling pin handle (salvaged from my old marble rolling pin that did not survive its meeting with the tile floor).

Edit to add: The 2nd smoke tasted better than the first. Maybe those toxins are burning off ...

Did a little low calorie snacking, and am smoking year 2014 Edgeworth Ready Rubbed Match in a very much appreciated 1979 brown, slight bend grain etched flat front Stanwell Rego 969-48 (09) with a black vulcanite saddle stem. Watching the Orioles-Astros game. Getting ready to clean the pipes that I smoked since late afternoon.
