So how the pipes go ?
They are all Made in Denmark and are Stanwell secondary brands
The smooth has nondescript grain and has a tiny pit/flaw that is darkening on the surface. So it was well-spotted by whoever was doing the quality control on the day.
The middle of the trio was partially blasted presumably because of visible surface flaws
The sandblast on the bottom is a beautiful pipe but is the only Stanwell in my collection that does not pass a cleaner. So it was very likely downgraded for a drilling fault
Onto the tobaccos:
The tins were all opened some time apart, so it’s probably not quite comparing apples with apples
I had previously been underwhelmed by this tin of Escudo.
Now down to the last 4 coins in this tin. The tin note was most pleasant - raisins and plums.
A very enjoyable bowl
Tin has been opened over a year and is 2/3s full.
Supposedly the same blend as Escudo.
I thought it tasted quite differently to the Escudo. And I did not enjoy it as much.
Perhaps with more time ?
This tin of Cabbie’s Mucture was opened only a few months ago and been broached 2-3 times since.
Tin notes of stewed fruit and bread.
It was very moist and was given dry time.
A prickle (wouldn’t call it a bite) on lighting with an immediate fit of coughing due to throat irritation.
When the coughing fit stopped and I settled into a slow cadence, the flavour was amazing.
My preference: Cabbie’s Mixture followed by Escudo
