Giving my newly acquired Lane BCA a try in the SMS claw meer. I sure hope I dried it enough. So does my tongue.

Bird report: California quail, California scrub-jay, California towhee, Steller's jay, Oak titmouse, White-breasted nuthatch, Common raven, Hairy woodpecker, and House finch. Neighborhood teenagers are riding their annoying off-road vehicles in the forest clearing nearby...I hope some of these birds have the foresight to fly right over their heads when it comes time to evacuate their bowels. Either way, they're still shitheads. nnnn

Got the new Sav today along with the BCA, a Bacco 321 rusticated bent author (also pictured). Going to break it in over the weekend!

I’m smoking a bowl of Anthology, and reminiscing about good times spent with my Dad. I’ve spent the weekend in the critical intensive care unit, after my father suffered a massive heart attack Friday evening. All four arteries were blocked, and he’s not a candidate for bypass surgery. A pump was installed in his heart to keep him alive until they could attempt to “rooter” a couple arteries and install stents. We were told to hope for the best but be prepared for the worst. The surgery was a success and we still have him with us. He’s not out of the woods by any stretch, but we now have hope, and that’s what we’re clinging to. If anyone here talks to the man upstairs, and is so inclined, please send one up for my Dad.

I'm taking mental notes on ideal tobacco/pipe caddies to have one with every thing I would like. It needs a spot to prepare tobacco, an opening on the side for cleaning, hold pipe cleaners along with a lighter and tamper, and a small jar of tobacco, all while looking a little classy.

My current one (which is close to ideal) is below.

However, I'm liking that attached pipe stand/holder.

Relaxing after a wonderful salad, chicken legs and snow peas dinner with strawberries for dessert. I'm half way through this bowl of Pfeifen Huber Virginia Golden Flake in a 1938 smooth straight brown patent Dunhill R 115 bowling ball apple with a tapered cumberland stem.

Going to have @Humblepipe ’s (thank you!) Silverado Fire Loose Leaf in a Mastercraft Meerschaum Billiard and Silverado Fire Crumble Cake in a Mastercraft Meerschaum Prince. It’ll be interesting to compare the two versions.

The Mastercraft box set comes with yellow and black stems. Initially, I thought the yellow stems might be horn, but, I’m reasonably sure they’re cheap nylon, which is odd because the yellow stems are custom fit to the pipes, and the black ones barely align.

Loose on the left, Crumble Cake on the right:

I love the slip of paper that covers Meerschaum’s fragility included in the set (and the misspelled possessive ”its” as “it’s”):

Enjoyed a tasty golden delicious apple, and am almost a third of the way through this bowl of several years old Dunhill Elizabethan in a straight smooth, dark brown patent era 1952 Dunhill Bruyere ODA apple 806 B124 with a black vulcanite tapered stem. Decided to have a Dunhill evening. Community Coffee, neat, is my drink. Watching the Angels-Mariners game.

Going to light up Esoterica Margate (2021) in a Savinelli Punto Oro Corallo 320 EX Author while I work on a couple of Joseph Hansen reissue book covers.

Susan and I celebrated 5 years together on August 11th. Today, the 13th is her birthday. We’re kicking things off with one of my presents to her—Kilchoman 2021 Limited Edition 11th 100% Islay Edition. It was distilled from their 2007, 2009, 2010, and 2011 barley harvests before being matured for a minimum of 9 years in 26 bourbon barrels and 7 oloroso sherry butts.
