Morning gentlemen. Just preparing a bowl of G&H Black Irish X Twist in one of the very few non-cutty meerschaum pipes that I own made by S. Weingott & Son of 83 Fleet Street, London. It has a decorative silver band and original amber stem and is an excellent smoker and strangely enough does not need a Philt Pad since it smokes plugs and twists well without tongue burn.

What is this Philt Pad?

Exactly what it is! It is a small chalk gob stopper cut in half that sits in the base of the bowl and aids in coloring as well as soaking up crap since it is made of compressed chalk.
