AAAAAGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! One of the worst days I've had in years.

IMGP5590RoppJ16&MFoptX.jpg

Left the forum a bit after 1:00 pm, and took a nap. WOKE UP AT 7:00 PM. Slept 6 hours. Mike usually arrives at 7:30 on Fridays for a smoke. He arrived on time. I was barely awake. I never eat or smoke until at least an hour after I wake up. I had a quick snack.

Figured about the only thing I could handle would be Mad Fiddler. Loaded my dedicated Ropp J16 and had possibly the worst smoke I've ever had from any tobacco. Tasted terrible and so did my mouth. Tried a Swishers Sweet Grape Cigar and it was even worse. BLAGGHHHHHHHHH!

I just can't smoke or eat until at least an hour after I wake up. And can't smoke for an hour after eating, period. Tried a relight of both pipe and cigar, and they tasted like camel droppings.

As I write this, I'm going back to bed and will probably stare at the ceiling till 6:00 AM marveling at my stupidity, and wonder how many fine tobacco's I've misjudged smoking them under similar or borderline conditions. Moron, know thyself. Staying away from the computer until I return to what normal I possess. Not even going to check for speling mistakes. Over and out.

And the bears are out . . . one just knocked over and tried to open my garbage can and bear-bangers are going off all over the place. No, I'm not kidding about any of this schiesen. Will be back unless the Pilsbury Doughboy appears over the hill.

On the menu for this evening's smoke was a new one, to me anyways, called Five Brothers. I loaded up half a bowl in my Savinelli 606ks and almost blew off my nose within the first few retrohales. After limiting myself to small sips, I really began to enjoy this strong blend.

Afterwards, I mixed a little Five Brothers with Crimson Shadow from Rivertown Tobacco Works (1:1) reloaded my Savinelli 606ks and really enjoyed the mixture. Next time I'll try adding some perique, or perhaps just try it with a VaPer. Either way, I really dig this blend.

Hope you all had a great day!

I haven't been posting much lately on account of having settled into a comfortable rotation of Gawith Kendal Dark, 1792 Flake, and Coniston Cut Plug in the same two Falcon pipes every day, but I figured I'd pop in and say hi tonight since I'm mixing things up a little and smoking some Dark Flake at the moment. puffy

Compared to Kendal Dark I've been finding Dark Flake to be a little mustier and more cigar-like, and darn near impossible to keep lit much of the time. It doesn't seem to matter how finely I rub it out or how long I dry it, this Dark Flake just doesn't seem to want to stay lit; unlike Kendal Dark which can usually be smoked to the bottom of the bowl from the charring light. It's tasty stuff and very stout in the Vitamin N department, just a bit of a nuisance mechanically speaking. I'll have to try Dark Plug next month and see if it's any less troublesome.

Barely slept, so I got up, turned on the back light, and saw Abner the Eager on the doormat. I picked him up, brought him inside to feed him in the bathroom so I could feed Harry the Hairy in the kitchen, but he didn't want to eat. He wanted my attention, which he got. He nuzzled my nose, which he's never done before, and probably would have laid on my lap. But, when I reached for pipe and tobacco, he stopped kneading my legs, and went to the kitchen to eat. He has finished eating and is on the couch, so I'm going to let Harry in to eat. I've passed the quarter mark of this bowl of year 2020 H&H Chatham Manor in a straight black sandblasted, smooth dark brown top bowl 2021 Jim Brown stack Rhodesian with a tapered black vulcanite stem.

Near the half way mark of this bowl of year 2021 Watch City Queequeg’s Moby Dick Series in a slight bend smooth brown post WWII 1940s Sasieni Ivory 101 Westminster diplomat with a black vulcanite saddle stem. I'll end the day with this smoke. Right after my last post, Abner the Eager left the couch, and jumped on my lap for a short snooze. When he got up to go back to the couch, I let Daisy the Feral Princess and Tomato the Brave in the eat. Tomato went back out, and Daisy is snoozin' in a corner in the den. Harry the Hairy went back out after he ate. Been watching the Pirates-Dodgers game that I recorded so I could see Paul Skenes pitch. The Dodgers barely touched him.

If you find Dark Plug easier to keep lit than Dark Flake I will pay you monies for your wizardry. It’s still worth the hassle as it is unique, strong, and deep.

I have been alternating the Barontini 1/2 spigot and the Vauen Olaf bent egg with Sutliff 507-C. I noticed some uneven cake rings developing inside the bowls. I didn't want to do a full reem so I grabbed an Imperial 3 blade pocket knife that had, what I now know as, a Wharncliffe blade. It perfectly lightly scraped the cake smooth even down to just above the bottom where the Bittner does not reach. I will be using it from now on for quick maintenance between reemings. I also noticed that both bowls now seem to have dublin conical shapes which some say is better for Virginias. That may go away with a proper reeming. Best wishes for a great day to all. Needed rain here today.
