Eight state burley — from 2021 I believe — in my Pete House pipe. Was expecting a cloudy day and then the sun came out and it is crisp blue skies. So I’m on the front porch in the shade. Different perspective on things.
Good Sunday all! Started this beautiful Easter with festive GH Ennerdale Flake in a now-dedicated Tilshsead smooth Footed Cutty with pencil shank and eighth-bent tapered stem. In the afternoon tried a mix of Bagpiper's Dream with Carter Hall in a Charatan birdseye Poker with saddle stem (318). Not bad at all. But went back to Ennerdale Flake which then tasted even better.
A third of the way through this bowl of year 2022 unreleased Sutliff Brown Virginia Flake in a 1920s medium bend smooth dark brown BBB Umbra bulldog with a tapered black vulcanite stem with an orific bit.
Worked out a new blend today, just for fun. Testing it out as a pre-dinner smoke. If this works out i'll call it "Evening Aperitif." It's 25% FVF burnt ends, 25% Ryback, 20% Evening Flake, 15% FVF and 15% Granulated Perique. So mainly a VA/Per with a little burley and kentucky for added complexity.
This, in a Tekin squashed tomato, as a tester bowl. So far, so good.
Match 20 in an Ascorti KS Business bulldog. One of my dad’s old pipes. It’s one of my go-to large chamber English/Balkan pipes, just a great smoking and tasting workhorse of a pipe.
A couple of quick bowls while granddaughter is away from home with Grandma.
2 French pipes - the 1st is an AMB Extra billiard (I can’t find any information on the maker), army mount with an orific bit.
Tiny French silver hallmarks with no date letter
With a bowl of The Country Squire Cherokee - a very generous sample from @SunriseBoy
Relaxing after a wonderful salad, almost two pounds of pork chops with black beans and rice topped with Monterey Jack Cheese as a side for dinner. Dessert was a couple of freshly baked blueberry muffins with a small bowl of vanilla bean ice cream. I'm almost a third of the way through this bowl of Peretti Royal in a black sandblasted medium bend 2013 Mark Tinsky Coral 5 cherrywood with a smooth dark brown shank and bottom with a tapered black briar accented acrylic stem. Community Coffee, neat, is my drink. Harry the Hairy wanted in to eat, even though there was a little dry food outside. He ate and roamed around a bit in the den. Tomato the Brave wanted in to eat, and started to go back out when he saw Harry the Hairy. I shut the door, and led Tomato to the kitchen to eat. Harry doesn't like Tomato's company any more than Tomato likes his, so he wanted out. Daisy the Feral Princess sat in the corner and watched the boneheads dance around each other.
I’ll be off the WAYS thread for a while. I’m having lumbar fusion surgery on 5/21. I will have several bone grafts and evidently nicotine inhibits their healing. I won’t be smoking for a month before and at least 3 months after. A guy needs his lower back to work right and not hurt. I’ll be around otherwise.
