Just finished a bowl of Black Mallory in a Comoy's Specimen Straight Grain #342 taper billiard, from the '50s, apparently. This pipe did not respond to this tobacco.
Just saw a Pileated Woodpecker up here recently, and we have lots of flickers . . . . seen any Pileated peckers there recently? I remember as a boy actually seeing an Ivory Bill once on a family vacation. Mom was a birder and knew instantly what it was. . . . very very rare back then, probably extinct now. Enjoy reading your bird reports.Bird report: White-crowned sparrow, Dark-eyed junco, California towhee, American crow, House finch, Mountain chickadee, California quail, California scrub-jay, Northern flicker, Steller's jay, Band-tailed pigeon, Western bluebird, Hairy woodpecker, White-breasted nuthatch, Oak titmouse, Spotted towhee, and American robin.
Makes me want to go put on a recording of Beethoven's "Archduke" Trio. Fine pipes!
Classy looking pipe. Ropp's are the best bang for the buck on the market, imho, and great smokers as well. Some nice looking wood on that specimen, too.quick evening smoke of Barens ODF in a New to me Ropp J 22 Apple

Here in SE PA we have quite a few Pilated. We see Flickers less often, but one has been frequenting the suet cages for the past month. Here’s our feeder, suspended on a thin stainless steel cable 15 feet up, 10 feet off the deck. Absolutely squirrel proof!Just saw a Pileated Woodpecker up here recently, and we have lots of flickers . . . . seen any Pileated peckers there recently?
