Now smoking year 2014 Esoterica Tilbury in a smooth medium bend 1999 Peterson Sherlock Holmes Series Milverton with a sterling silver band and a black vulcanite p-lip stem. Tomato the Brave and Harry the Hairy wanted in to eat, and are doing so in separate rooms. Daisy the Feral Princess is snoozin'. Dunno where Abner the Eager is.

Knocked out the usual ranch chores while wifey went out gallivanting on the horse. By the time I settled in for a bowl of Mac Baren Virginia Flake in a Peterson Irish Harp 80s sandblasted bulldog, the ambient noise pollution from the local redneck populace had blessedly abated (as soon as the weather warms up...it's like clockwork), and I was able to glide into Passover weekend in peace. Yet another blend I'm glad to have socked away a couple pounds of, before STG besmirches it as they see fit. 9/10

Bird report: White-crowned sparrow, California towhee, Dark-eyed junco, House finch, American crow, Red-tailed hawk, California scrub-jay, Steller's jay, Northern flicker, Oak titmouse, Mountain chickadee, White-breasted nuthatch, Hairy woodpecker, California quail, Spotted towhee, American robin, and Mourning dove.

Looking forward to some much needed r&r this weekend, and seeing how many golfers end up in the drink on the 12th hole at the Masters. ⛳

Shabbat shalom, and chag sameach!

Now smoking year 2014 Full Virginia Flake in a straight 1968 Dunhill Shell bulldog with a black vulcanite saddle stem. Been watching My Three Sons in chronological order. In the episode we just watched, Fred MacMurray smoked what I think was a Kaywoodie. In all the earlier episodes, he smoked Dunhill LB or LSB billiard. I figure they were actually his pipes because all the Dunhills had a touch of grit near the button.

Did some low calorie snacking, fed all the cats, and am smoking year 2014 Edgeworth Ready Rubbed Match in a very much appreciated 1979 brown, slight bend grain etched flat front Stanwell Rego 969-48 (09) with a black vulcanite saddle stem. Ice water and bergs is my drink.

A BIT OF CANINE NOSTALGIA: Ricoh passed yesterday at 11:10 AM, two days later than I figured. A full five days without water - he wouldn't touch it, try as I may. He always was a tough little monkey, and was never in pain. As he physically deteriorated, he of course did the loud yelping, which is a cry to predators and scavengers that "come and get me - quickly, please!!" that we've all heard before. And they'd come and oblige.

Yet when I went to him as he yelped six or seven times a day when he didn't understand why he wasn't functioning, I'd simply touch or rub him under the chin or on his neck, and he'd purr like a cat or coo like a dove, and go back to sleep. By yesterday morning, he couldn't even crawl, and only his voicebox worked. I picked him up, held on to him as he purred for about five minutes, nuzzled my hand, and expired.

If he had have been in pain, I would have known. He was simply incapable of understanding why his body no longer responded. As I said last time, no regrets. It was his time. If he had have demonstrated agony, I may have taken him for a ride. But he never did, and I never thought he would. The last week was one of the most inspirational and treasured time of my life. Won't say more - you'll all know. Selected three snapshots to show Ricoh to you, of him in better times.

I'll be leaving for my 4 day Triduum stint in Vanderhoof this coming Tuesday, rather than yesterday as planned. I've got a few things now that I have to take care of, and will probably do a few posts before I leave, catching up on comments as well when I can. Much work to do now, and I'm slower than the ace of spades.

At the Nechako Cutbanks - his favourite walk in PG

In Vanderhoof, at our two day a week teaching stint at Joe and Thea's where I stayed and they spoiled him while I taught at the studio:

And finally, en route to Calgary. He was ticked because he wasn't included for a lunch break lol.

Oh yeah . . . . celebrated his passing with my best cigar. Seemed appropriate.
Want to update the timeline a bit and correct an erroneous statement. In my original post I'd said that Ricoh had not eaten in 7 days, and had not drank for three. And I expected him to die the next day. All true. But in this post I said that I had tried without success to get him to drink again . . . also true, many times. On one attempt though, he did slurp at the bowl a few times. I didn't think that would affect the outcome, but it just may have because he didn't pass for two more days. This gaff has been bothering me so I wanted to set the record straight. He left forthwith and wouldn't go back. My sincere apologies.

Also I would like to thank you all for your kind comments . . . . I'm still a bit bummed out right now and I appreciate them very much. Very few of my PG friends know yet, and all are amazed that he has lasted as long as he has. One comment that struck me, from QuestionableSource, was "We all are better people because of our pets." Indeed.

I wish I had this little fellow's courage. Thanks again.

Picking some brains here . . . I placed an order for some of my favourite cheap cigars today, from our duty free Mohawk source, and they happened to get some private stock of Hearth & Home Magnum Opus for $52.00 a tin. I read the profile and it appealed to me. So I scooped two tins in addition to my stogies, as that's a very good price for a 50 gram tin of tobacco up here.

Never heard of it before. Not surprised, because there are a lot of things I don't know. Can you who know this tobacco give me a heads up on what I might expect? Thanks.
