A third of a bowl left of year 2024 Edward G. Robinson's Pipe Blend in a 2014 Basil Meadows smooth slight bend squashed tomato with an aluminum band and a black pearl acrylic stem in the military mount style. This finishes the EGR tin. The Chewy order came, and I fed Sleepy Suzy, Molly Danger, Daisy the Feral Princess, and Harry the Hairy (outside). The weather looks bad and the humidity is high, which often keeps Tomato the Brave and Abner the Eager away. A least for a while. I'm watching the O's-Red Sox game, and once again, the O's Charlie Morton is pitching badly. A two run homer to a second batter of the first inning, and a two run homer to the second batter of the second inning. The other batters stuck out. He's not the pitcher he used to be. Ice water and bergs is my drink.

Yeah, still kicking myself for not jumping on those $30 clearance 14oz tins P&C was selling back when they shut down Tucker... but I was always a SWRA guy so I never prioritized it... glad I at least snagged a couple of the last real Ready Rubbed though...
I love SWR but really don't know whether I have the new stuff or old stuff. I have eight packets, so I'm all set either way, and what I have is excellent, a go-to in fact.. I use about 25% of my SWR as a chew, and as I've said before, it's the best tasting of all tobaccos that way. Up there in the pipe, too!

I first bought it only about a year and a half ago, so I'd imagine I have the "new" stuff.

I'm not sure about the pouches but it went drastically down hill with the 7ounce tins.

Now smoking year 2014 Sutliff 1849 in a medium bend smooth dark brown 1968 Corporate Era Barling 5631 London England TVF billiard silver spigot with a tapered black vulcanite stem. M'lady is cradling Harry the Hairy like a baby, and he's got all four paws up in the air. When he's happy, he's very happy.

On the same day as I got in the worst Algerian briar pipe I’ve ever seen the highest condition Bertram 30 arrived, made by crippled soldiers in the shadow of the Capitol dome, of unstained, unvarnished, and unpainted aged oil cured Algerian briar.

Geez, is this a nice pipe from Tom Schoen of Schoen Pipe Repair who sent a hand written thank you note and a cool celluloid tamper with a perfect, flawless, as new pipe.

It rates aged Virginia Slices.

Nothing like a Bertram to make a feller feel patriotic!

Cigar Time: Oliva Rounds 96 rated with Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper.

Cigar page calls this a first - Only difference from Oliva Serie V Melanio is that these are rolled round instead of box pressed. I found this to be a great value if one is not worried about the label.

In my taste test I am certain this is a Melanio, but about 95% flavorful. Most likely it is due to the fact I am smoking it the day it arrived.

Lost my taste for chocolate; it never fully recovered from the month long abstinence to raise money for British Heart Foundation:)
Stopped buying plastic packeted biscuits, chocolate, crisps, sweets & tobacco.
Bought some loose fruit from Bakewell Co-op today; made a loaf of bread this morning & homemade lemonade when I got home today. Making apple crumble tonight; taking Mum & Dad some tomorrow. Making it after dinner.

Did a set of walking reps in the sweltering humidity, and smoked a bowl of year 2016 D&R Three Sails in a slight bent black pattern etched 1977 Lorenzo Lorsan Sigma level top billiard with a gray swirl acrylic saddle stem. Tomato the Brave was waiting for me when I went out the door, so I let him in and fed him. Harry the Hairy wanted in, but it'd been too much drama with me outside. It's lunch time now. Had the O's-Red Sox game on pause while I was out, so I'll watch the rest of it now. Charlie Morton has struck out ten so far, but bad pitches has hurt him as always. Sox lead 5-3 in the fifth.

Down to about two small pipes a day with all that's going on. However, as I said I'd do last post when I was about to leave for the range, I did smoke a Phillie's Blunt Grape, and enjoyed, and figured I'd dissect one and smoke the tobacco in a pipe. Well, I did. And I smoked it in my $18 Muxiang, which I've nicknamed "Uncle Henry". Who is, of course the pipe smoking old grouch who lives next door to Dennis the Menace. It's a great smoking pipe, and everybody should have one. Made, they claim on Amazoon, from ebony. Could very well be, because it's a heavy sucker.

How did the dissected grape cigar smoke in the pipe? Quite nicely, actually. Excellent, smooth grape flavouring, but tobacco just a tad on the harsh side and also smoked a bit fast. Only got about 25 mintutes from the medium bowl Uncle, which is passable. What is also interesting is that I got a full jar of tobacco, from the one cigar, even after I smoked the first load. At three bucks for the stogey, that's a cheap smoke. Certainly okay in the morning.

I'm dividing the jar up into three plastic baggies, and will add, to three parts of the cigar tobacco, one part of a cavendish, in order to smooth out and extend the smoking time to 35-40 minutes, what I usually get out of Uncle. Planned additions are Capt Black Dark, Borkum Riff Dark, and Smokers' Pride Classic. I'll let y'all know asap. Gotta let them blend for a week or so before knowing what transpires.

Great day at the range yesterday, especially my two hours indoors. I've encapsuled the experience for you under the cigar tobacco shot, and enclosed a shooting shot below that, in my usual "Ignorable Drivel" segment after the smoke analysis. Back late tonight. Will catch up on happenings, I hope. Pictures a bit dark . . . not really enough time to do the tweaking thing.

Ignorable Drivel: Had a great day personally at the range indoors. I'm all set for the field target demo on rifle, and getting there with the pistol. Finally found a pellet that groups well in my Alpha, and just may use this pistol with iron sights for the demo round with guests in June. Shown in the picture is my Alpha, the Straton pellets that group the best in this gun, and a 10 shot group, my final group of the day, at a full 16 yards with an elbow rest, from a chair, which is a setup that will be used in the demo at two of the 5 stations.

All of the pellets (except that rotten flyer) are within 3/4" and that black area is 1 1/4". Yeah, that flyer ticks me off but it happens. I'd put the dimensions in metric, but think that if God had wanted us to go metric, He'd have given Jesus 10 apostles.

Okay, ignore the fact that the group is not centered. I'll take care of that next week by moving the epicenter to the left. But it is NOT high because 16 yards marks the apex point of the pellet trajectory, and it will be bang on at the maximum 25 yards in field target pistol divisions, and is bang on at 10 yards, where it is beginning to rise.

Field target stations (there are 25 in both pistol and rifle divisions) are within 25 yards for pistol shooters, and out to 60 yards for rifle competitors. Each station has a different required shooting position, and the bullseye is of a different size. The target size is shaped like an animal or bird, made of metal, and an audible hit counts as one point. The bull, however, varies from target to target, and is from 1" on pistol, to 3/8" in rifle. The pistol range is maximum 25 yards, and hitting a 1" bull at this range is not that easy. Hitting a 3/8" target at 60 yards for an air rifle is extremely difficult. Hitting the bull results in the target falling down. It's a fun, but challenging and has been Internationally recognized for about a decade now. One of the most important skills, in field target, is the ability to judge range. You have to know the trajectory of your pellet to the letter. They don't shoot nearly as flat as a centerfire.

Whether I use my Alpha or not, depends on whether the low 335fps velocity of the .177 caliber pellet has enough energy to knock down the target. I've not tried it yet. My Crosman CPC Silhouette will, at it's 480fps velocity. I could use a .22 pellet pistol but mine doesn't group well enough. You don't use .22 in air rifle competition because there is not enough leeway to pass through the .26" hole reliably at 60 yards. And yes, a lot of the competitors are that good.

I'm sure I'll post more on this as the date gets closer, for those interested.
