Gentleman Caller in a Dr Grabow that I use for Deertongue blends.

My next paycheck I'm gonna get some deertongue blends. I've never tried it, I got a certain pipe I'm prepared to sacrifice to it. I also am going to get some for my father who I recently bought Haunted Bookshop for, and he didn't care for it, said he remembered his uncle and grandfathers smokes to smell and taste sweeter and we're darker. He thought Haunted Bookshop tastes like cigarettes. So I thought I'd send him a can of this or a can of Crooner here next week and we both give deertongue a shot. I'm hoping it's what he remembers from back then. He said he never heard of it. He just got back into pipes after not smoking for like 40 years, lol so he's trying to find that old smoke. So I'm gonna send him all the old Codger/OTC type stuff and see if anything sparks too

I've had a similar experience, I've smoked as soon as I've woke up and the smoke just don't taste right. After bout an hour my taste buds wake up. I've found drinking something first helps.
Thank You!! Very Much! The Bad Day in Black Rock has passed.

Having a cup of cold black coffee right now and am expecting a return to normal. I think the underlying cause was that weekend trip to Vanderhoof. Took it out of this old guy. And an afternoon nap that turned into a 6 hour sleep totally disoriented me as has the loss of my mutt.

We've all had these days, and I'm sure that there are many guys in the forum that have found out that they just can't do things they did 10 years ago! Moderation has never been my middle name! :ROFLMAO:

Hey I can give you a hint here . . . . I take my tailings jar, which I call "Scragg" (after Olive Oyl in the Popeye Cartoon), and quite often add about 25% by volume of dried parsley (about a buck an ounce at the dollar store) which gives the tailings mix a floral overtone, which is actually quite similar to deertongue in effect, at least according to buddy Stu.

He's our local tobacco guru, who is now getting into pipe making, and says the effect is quite delightful and was the one who told us it is not unlike deertongue. We all get together about once a month (our group, Josh, Stu, Mike et al) are hunting and fishing buddies from way back), and start our group evening with Scragg. Kind of a tradition now. This may save you a bit of moolah.

On the menu for my morning smoke was half a bowl of C&D Bayou Morning loaded in my Savinelli Porto Cervo 127 and paired with a drip coffee.

Afterwards, and for my final smoke for the next couple of days while I recover (I'm having a minor procedure done today), was half of a bowl of GH&Co Dark Plug loaded in my Guildhall with the remainder of my coffee.

Hope you all have a great day!
Hope the surgery and the recovery are quick and smooth!
