Somehow, this is my first post in WAYS for 2024 …been away thanks to a promotion at work lol - turned 40 today and smoked my pipe all day - OGS, Stokkebye 1989, C&D Yorktown and finishing up with C&D Anthology 2023 (this blend is freakin’ amazing) - cheers, pipe friends!!
Enjoyed a tasty snap dragon apple, and am now smoking 2019 C&D Yorktown in a medium bend raw sienna toned early Radice sandblast egg with bamboo carving on the shank and a black acrylic saddle stem. Haven't smoked this pipe in several years, and picked a blend to see if there's any ghost of Oriental tobacco in it. Ice water and bergs is my drink. I may end the day with this smoke.
Going to have Savinelli 140° (1358/2800) in an exciting addition to my collection: a Ferruccio Savinelli F Silver Sandblasted Billiard 0115, from the Genova branch of the family, probably from the 1950s. This pipe and box can be seen on the Savinelli Pipedia page. I’m running with a silver theme for this smoke.

Back on September 2nd, 2023, Susan and I took a drive to Boswell’s in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. Unfortunately, it was too short notice for any pipe forum members to meet up with us that day. I didn’t find a Boswell pipe that appealed to me at the shop (I recently came across a magnum at auction that I really liked, but was the underbidder—oh well).
We made a day of it and visited Gettysburg and Lancaster. One of the stops was Waynesboro, where we did some antiquing. I came across Christie’s House of Pipes & Cigars on the main shopping drag and stopped in. I was wearing my @Humblepipe t-shirt that day, and Eric Christie commented on the shirt. We had a nice lengthy conversation; he told about how he and J.M. Boswell both apprenticed at Richard C. Johnson’s in Carlisle, PA. I didn’t see any Christie pipes that I cared for that day, but made a note to check their website periodically. In the ensuing months, I came across a couple that I liked, but there were other pipes that took precedence. I hesitated on the purchase of the Christie pipes and missed out. After I didn’t win the Boswell, I thought to check the Christie site and found one I liked well enough to pull the trigger on.
Going to have Christie’s House of Pipes & Cigars Eric’s Blend in a Quarter Bent Christie’s Squat Rhodesian (Eric listed it as a Quarter Bent Christie’s Squat Bulldog with a round shank), made with fifty year old aged briar. Eric created this blend while he apprenticed at Johnson’s.

Just lit up some Makhuwa with a pinch of latakia in ser jacopo with the remainder of my morning coffee.

Classic aro and the few that remain in my rotation
Second impressions of The Old Boss by Sutliff in my Moretti volcano. This blend was not an immediate hit in my MM cob. It definitely tastes better in a briar to me. I need to experiment a wee bit more with specific bowls but can be satisfying when sipping slowly.
