Just read the Riftwar Saga again and just today finished off Warren Zevon's biography "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead". I'd recommend that anybody that has an even passing interest in Warren and his music give it a read.
GREAT book! My favorite part was when he appointed his son to go clean out his porn collection when he died. His son was like, " I didn't know it was DAD'S porn!" (Meaning Warren was IN the porn HIMSELF!) Funny stuff!

I just finished 'Lost city of Z'by David Grann and I am about to finish 'Feast of crows' by George RR Martin (Yes I read them both concurrently). If you love true adventure I recommend 'Lost city of Z', an excellent read! The book follows the true life of explorer Percy Fawcett. 'Feast of Crows' is excellent as well, you don't have to read the series long to understand why the call George RR Martin the 'American Tolkien'.

For the review go here:

It's a good Fantasy Novel without all the flash and spaceships n such. Good middle-age type thing.

The Christian in Complete Armour by Gurnall, Resolution by Parker (just getting into Westerns)...
I started working in a library when I was 15 and find it's an occupational habit...that's why I need a churchwarden!

I am a classic heavy metal fan and enjoy Eddie Trunk's radio shows. I'm reading a copy of his book "Eddie Trunks Essential Hard Rock and Heavy Metal". I picked it up and had it signed at a store in NJ earlier this summer. Lots of great pictures and insights into the bands in this genre.

"Extraordinary Popular Delusions And The Madness Of Crowds" by Thomas Mackay. Written in 1841, it discusses mass movements of people taken in by schemes like Tulip Mania in Holland, the South Seas Bubble Scheme ( stock swindle in France) etc. Really facinating book that shows that there is nothing new. Bernie Madoff could have built his ponzi scheme on this book. A wortwhile read.

About halfway through "Blowback" by Brad Thor, that guy writes some awesome, testosterone infused action. Totally over the top but entertaining none the less. Also about halfway through "I am America and so can you" by Stephen Colbert. Probably finish them both off by Saturday.

On vacation, I read a few of the Indiana Jones prequels. They were easy reads, but I enjoyed them. I just have to get the girlfriend to mail me the rest of them.
I've begun reading Achtung - Panzer!, the book that gave birth to the German tactics in the 2nd World War. The first part shows just how close minded the leaders of armies were at the start of World War One.

Ga'devening everyone,
I wanted to mention a book I've been reading, written by one of our illustirous members baronsamedi. I first learned of the book in a string about Home Brewing.

It is Brew or Die. It is a regular guy's guide to brewing that most mystical of drafts... Nectar of the Gods...Mead.
Mead is something I have wanted to attempt to brew for quite some time... I now have the confidence to do so. When I can assemble the necessaries, I will.
Thank you Baron.

It's a very fine and user friendly read.

Hunter S. Thompson's The Proud Highway. A bit behind on my magazines, so I'm trying to catch up there. Contemplating re-reading LotR - used to read it every other year at Christmas, but haven't in quite awhile. I remember quite well sitting there in my chair, my youngest asleep in my arm as I read. Couldn't get up and disturb her,of course. :) She'll be 25 October 1st, so I guess that makes it 1986 when I last read it.

The Creation of the Presidency, 1775–1789: A Study in Constitutional History by Charles C. Thach, Jr.
Description:

"Fresh from a battle against monarchy, the American Founders were wary of a strong executive, but they were equally conscious that unchecked legislative power risked all the excesses of democracy. Creating an effective executive who did not dominate the legislative body posed a significant challenge. In The Creation of the Presidency, 1775–1789, Charles Thach’s lucid analysis reveals how these conflicting concerns shaped the writing of the Constitution and the early clarification of executive powers."
