I really liked Goodkind's first few books... You might dig "The Name of the Wind," if you haven't read it already.

Jeremiah I will check it out for sure!

I've read Goodkind's series twice now and waiting on his new release, now postponed to August of this year.

bootlegbonvivant this is easily my 5th time thru the series, I too am sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for his new release, that and Battlefield 3.

"Tombstones Early Years" by John Myers Myers.

J.M.M. is an old west historian, and one heck of a storyteller.

He also wrote one of the greatest books on the history of the west, from the mountain man years to the wild wild west, called "Deaths of the Bravos", republished and retitled "Bravos of The West".

IMO, its one of the best nonfiction books I've ever read, can't recommend Johns work any more highly.

He also wrote a series of fantasy novels called "Silverlock" . I've not read any yet, but they are highly acclaimed.

Has anyone read Bernard Cornwell's Arthurian legend? It's a 3 part series starting with The Winter King...

Has spectacular character building and relationships and a very realistic and interesting take on religious beliefs then and how things could've happened.

I just finished "Sarum" by F. Rutherfurd. A wonderful read while smoking! It follows the history of the Salisbury plain in England from the first people who got there until 1985. It is very historically accurate, it follows essentially 4 family trees through the wars, religious struggles, economic highs and lows and plagues. It is a loooooooong book and truly rewarding.

I've forgotten this thread for a couple books, I just finished The Talisman. . .it was okay. I liked it, but I had issues with almost every chapter. Somehow I still enjoyed it. As much as I feel it will be disappointing, I think I'll read Black House next, the sequel.

Working on that one myself Sarge. Wish I could say I'm enjoying it. =|
Although I'm only about 1/3 of the way through and I've been told it's necessary to give it some time.

Finally finished the Three Musketeers and now plan to hit the bookstore today to pick up a copy of Man In The Iron Mask (the continuation of our heroes from the Musketeers). In the meantime I started up a little on The Hunchback Of Notre Dame.

@Jeremiah, I agree, the writing isn't that great. I think the accolades and comparing it to Tolkien are a little over-blown. I like a soap opera type story set in different times/places and this seems to fit the bill. I'm going to finish it up, but as for getting the other 900+ page tomes...not so sure....

Just finshed Terry Pratchett's "Pyramids" for the second time. Need to go to the store and pick up another one. I've read everything he's written before, but I love the Discworld series so much I periodically reread them. That and I'm trying to get them in the original artists covers before they go out of print.

Just finished A Farewell to Arms, it was very sad but I didn't get too into it because I just wrote my finals and am on a leisurely read kick right now. Now I'm reading Architecture in a Crowded World, also very sad, but, in a different kind of way.

Unseen Academicals is excellent Arthur. English Football and Wizards!
And, a sudden idea, a Rincewind pipe? It could be shabby as anything, with some faded stars and Wizard spelt wrongly around the middle.
