What are You Reading Now?

Finished listening to The Chronicles of Narnia (read by Patrick Stewart, Lynn Redgrave, Kenneth Branagh, et al.), which was excellent, now I’m well into Moby Dick, read by the late, great William Hootkins. It’s obvious why this is the Great American Novel, and I’m embarrassed that I’ve not read it before.

Alastair Cooke traveled all over the country during the early part of World War II. By the time he finished writing this book, it was August of 1945. It didn't seem like anyone would be interested, so the manuscript sat in a box in his closet for sixty years.

I’m reading (in fits and starts) The Pope Benedict XVI Reader. Very interesting. In my younger days I was a little baffled by WFB’s Roman Catholic religious beliefs. Then I read Chesterton. So many conversions recently among conservatives!

The Complete Game: Reflections on Baseball, Pitching and Life on the Mound, by Ron Darling.

I bought this for my 14-year-old son (he's a pitcher), but then he wanted me to read it. It's been fun to talk with him about the different chapters as I get around to reading them (every other day it's "Where are you in the book, dad???").

It's heavy on the nitty-gritty details about pitching, and lighter on the life lessons stuff - which suits me just fine. Lots of interesting lore relating to the Mets teams of the 1980s.

Yes! Was able to receive Communion from his hands!

Listening to the audiobook version of this one. Fantastic narration by Taron Egerton (who played Elton in the Rocketman film) really brings it to life.
