Caught some incredible Tony Rice guitar on WUNC's Back Porch Music last night, just amazing work with other top musicians. I think he won honor with the bluegrass community but was so intensely talented he transcended the genre. I saw him late in his career at the bluegrass festival in Raleigh, N.C. about ten years ago, not in good health, but cherished by his fellow performers. As they say, he left it all on the field. Someone who saw him early in his adult life said they'd never seen as skinny a guy. I think he burned all this calories playing.
