I was today years old when I found this out. Frank Sinatra's song Full Moon and Empty Arms from 1945 was based on Rachmaninoff's 2nd piano concerto. I listened to both and was amazed at how well he followed the melody from the concerto. Nice stuff for an older piece by Sinatra.

wow, indeed. I’m quite familiar with the Rachy 2, one of the great classical pieces of all time. But this Sinatra song I’m unfamiliar with. Or if I had heard it, I probably passed it off as just another Sinatra song, not knowing why I found it weirdly familiar.

Waylon Jennings released one of the best “get away from me you beautiful young girl I’m married” songs ever in 1966.

These were sort of like man bites dog songs.

Normally the man gets dumped by the pretty young girl when she finds out he’s married but sometimes (very rarely) it’s the man with a conscience.:)

The ultimate song of this genre has to be Margie’s at the Lincoln Park Inn. You must know this one to play with any hillbilly jam session, it will be requested by a woman.

Modern day version

Original 1969

Another must know Get Away From Me song is Cal Smith’s 1974 Time to Pay the Fiddler.
