I’ve rather eclectic taste in music, but this genre I generally don’t care for. But; this song is the opening intro to the movie Angel II, my first date, and holds a special place in my heart. My date ended up hating the movie, and we parted ways. But years later, we happened to bump into one another at a B movie festival, featuring of all things, Angel II, and we hit it off. She’s still with me today.
Weaving down the American highway
Through the litter and the wreckage and the cultural junk
Bloated with entitlement, loaded on propaganda
And now we're driving dazed and drunk
Been down the road to Damascus,
The road to Mandalay
Met the ghost of Caesar on the Appian Way
He said, "It's hard to stop this binging, once you get a taste.
But the road to empire is a bloody stupid waste."
Roy Ayers - Brawlin' Broads, from Coffy OST (1973). Great blaxploitation soundtrack, great instrumentation, great film! Oh yeah, and Pam Grier's rack. Almost forgot to mention that; how terribly uncouth of me...
