I’m listening to Bert Jansch album Jack Orion. It includes "Blackwaterside,” a song so good Jimmy Page used it, almost note for note on his instrumental "Black Mountain Side," in Led Zeppelin’s 1969 debut, without giving Jansch credit.
Wasn’t the tune originally an Irish folk tune?
Either way, Bert Jansch doesn’t get as much notice these days as he deserves.
I believe it’s an original. He had considered a suit, but didn’t have the money to take on a behemoth like Zeppelin. He did use quite a few traditional Scottish folk tunes though. The number of guitarists and musicians he inspired is amazing. Great to hear from another fan.

Looks like it’s an old Irish folk song originally called Down By Blackwaterside.
According to Wikipedia quite a few people have done versions. There’s some interesting stuff in the Wiki about Bert’s version.
