I was talking to a friend, earlier, about "mondegreens" (look it up; an example is "S'cuze me while I kiss this guy").
And, apropos, here's a great song, and one of the famous "mondegreens" ("Don't bring me down... grooss").

I didn't know he was that into the Dolls, but I had read that he convinced them to get back together for a show at a festival he was organizing - just Googled it, and it was in 2004
Yeah Morrissey was a HUGE Dolls fan, he was probably like a lot of people who saw that BBC OGWT performance ie blown away. You've got to remember this was 1973 so no Internet, most people would've been seeing them for the first time.
Malcom McLaren managed the Dolls for a short while and I think he learnt a lot from that which he used to start a new band, The Sex Pistols. There's no doubt about it that the Dolls were a huge influence on the Pistols. Steve Jones learnt to play guitar by playing along to the Dolls first album while he was high on speed and Sid Vicious was a massive fan as I've heard him say as much in interviews. IIRC he said he liked them because they played "dirty rock and roll."?
