My wife and I are listening to "The Dead Arising" audible book by Les Payne, a former colleague of my wife's at Newsday on Long Island. He won a Pulitzer years ago for his investigative journalism, but this is an incredibly researched biography of Malcolm X written over 30 years, published posthumously, and brought to completion by his daughter. I met Les Payne at a Newsday reunion picnic, and in person he was a master raconteur, which comes through in his writing too. He had me riveted for more than an hour with his account of undercover reporting of his stint as a farmer worker under the supervision of a pistol packing farm manager, who he finally outfoxed to get back to the newspaper with his story, never to return. Amazing journalist and writer.
