Spinning Kind of Blue again this morning. Every time I spin this record I am amazed by not only what I hear but the story behind it. Miles Davis came up with the concept and chord progression for this album just a few hours before the recording session. Coltrane, Adderely, Chambers, Evans, et al. had never seen or heard the music. Nothing was written done. Davis just explained what he was trying to achieve. It was all improvised around Davis' concept and chords. The tracks on this record were all first takes cuts ! These musical geniuses were so fully connected to each other during this recording session that pure magic was achieved. Still the best jazz recording of all time IMHO! This is truly American classical music.
Steve Roach - Living The Dream, from Life Sequence (2003). Misleading release date; this track is from 1991. Brilliant sequencer work.
