@brian64 turned me on to this one, .............. a few years ago...........
A poignant song if there ever was one.........
Our Paradise is just a memory in the rear-view, sad..............

This one's worth a listen through your main audio system, or earphones at the least.........
your laptop or smartphone speakers just don't do it justice.........

She came from Providence
One in Rhode Island
Where the old world shadows hang
Heavy in the air
She packed her hopes and dreams
Like a refugee
Just as her father came across the sea
She heard about a place
People were smilin'
They spoke about the red man's way
And how they loved the land
They came from everywhere
To the Great Divide
Seeking a place to stand
Or a place to hide
Down in the crowded bars
Out for a good time
Can't wait to tell you all
What it's like up there
And they called it paradise
I don't know why
Somebody laid the mountains low
While the town got high
Then the chilly winds blew down
Across the desert
Through the canyons of the coast
To the Malibu
Where the pretty people play
Hungry for power
To light their neon way
Give them things to do
Some rich men came and raped the land
Nobody caught 'em
Put up a bunch of ugly boxes
And Jesus people bought 'em
They called it paradise
The place to be
They watched the hazy sun
Sinking in the sea
You can leave it all behind
Sail to Lahaina
Just like the missionaries did
So many years ago
They even brought a neon sign:
"Jesus is coming"
Brought the white man's burden down
Brought the white man's reign
Who will provide the grand design?
What is yours and what is mine?
'Cause there is no more new frontier
We have got to make it here
We satisfy our endless needs
Justify our bloody deeds
In the name of destiny
And in the name of God
And you can see them there
On Sunday morning
Stand up and sing about
What it's like up there
They call it paradise
I don't know why
You call someplace paradise
Kiss it goodbye

Some time ago I posted the album 'For Ever Changes' by the group Love, which is considered the best psychedelic album of all time. It was first released in November 1969.

Shortly before the singer Arthur Lee died as a result of leukemia, the band once again played the entire album with orchestral accompaniment on their 'Forever Changes Tour.'The resulting DVD is simply wonderful. Arthur Lee sadly died on August 3, 2006. He was friend with Jimi Hendrix.

Great song Beef.

I remember being struck by that one as a teen when HC came out. My understanding and perspective on some of the ideas and assertions in it has changed over the years, but Henley's lyrics certainly elevated many Eagles songs to a level beyond what they otherwise would have been. And Last Resort is one of their best. It tends to make me think of Song For America by Kansas.

Virgin land of forest green, dark and stormy plains, here all life abounds
Sunlit valley, mountain fields, unseen in the rain, here all life abounds
No man rules this land, no human hand has soiled this paradise
Waiting patiently, so much to see, so rich in Earth's delights

Painted desert, sequined sky, stars that fill the night, here all life abounds
Rivers flowing to the sea, sunshine pure and bright, here all life abounds
No man rules this land, no human hand has soiled this paradise
Waiting patiently, so much to see, so rich in Earth's delights

So the maiden lies in waiting, for the sails to reach the shore
Land of beauty and abundance, innocent, you opened wide your door
Wanderers found the waiting treasure, full of gifts beyond their measure
Milk and honey for our pleasure.....

Across the sea there came a multitude, sailing ships upon the wave
Filled with visions of Utopia, and the freedom that they crave
Ravage, plunder, see no wonder, rape and kill and tear asunder
Chop the forest, plow it under.....

Highways scar the mountainsides, buildings to the sky, people all around
Houses stand in endless rows, sea to shining sea, people all around
So we rule this land, and here we stand upon our paradise,
Dreaming of a place, our weary race is ready to arise

I'm listening to a favorite LP, A Long Time Comin' by The Electric Flag, a late '60s Blues/Rock band. Here's their take on Howlin' Wolf's "Killing Floor" with Michael Bloomfield, guitar, Nick Gravenites, vocal, Buddy Miles, drums, Barry Goldberg, keyboards, Herbie Rich, baritone sax, Harvey Brooks, bass, Peter Strazza, tenor sax, and Marcus Doubleday, trumpet

Dino, I asked them to close the 2nd thread I started which the Mods have kindly done.

Apologies to anyone who wasted their time posting in it.

I love the 2nd side of that album. I bought it when it was released, still have it on my album cover "wall of fame" (our favorites). Saw them do this live a few years ago in Cleveland. That was released the same year as Rumours, pretty amazing. I do miss heading to the record store when those new releases came out, no youtube single releases, it was a leap of faith for your favorite artists.
