Listening to Don Ellis ”5/4 Getaway” on my brand new Pandora Don Ellis station. #cosmicfolklore reminded me of him when he referenced Frank Zappa and odd time signatures.
Having been a trumpet player in my younger days I was very taken with him as an extremely creative jazz musician.
He led one of the most talented big bands in jazz at the time. Don died at 43 burning that freakin’ candle for all it was worth.
