In the sticks in Mississippi
It's Beethoven's 250th. birthday!
Here's a performance of the final movement of his Ninth Symphony, "The Ode to Joy," with Arturo Toscanini conducting the NBC Symphony Orchestra and Westminster Choir, featuring my father's life-long friend, basso Nicola Moscona, with soprano Jarmila Novotna, contralto Kerstin Thorborg, and tenor Jan Peerce.
It was recorded in 1939, at Carnegie Hall.

One of my favorites! I actually was going to listen to his Sixth Symphony "Pastoral" in honor of his birthday. Always reminds me of E. G. Robinson in Soylent Green too. ?

In the semi-rural NorthEastern USA
best show I saw was Sonny Rollins at Penn State (forget the name of the venue, it's been over ten years since I've seen anything there). He and his band where amazing. And I say this in the best way there was zero showmanship going on, all he seemed to care about was playing the music. Like he'd play a song then tell you the name of the song and the name of the next song the whole night was like that. Super great show though.
