I started drinking port when I was living at a University college.
Wednesday night dinners were formal - suit, tie and academic gowns.
Sherry was served pre-dinner in the library, wine at dinner. If the wine was not to our liking, we were encouraged to bring our own bottles.
Port and coffee were served post-dinner in the library.
That instilled a love of port, sherry and wine that persists to this day.
