My toughest blend is the Butera Royal Vintage: Dark Stoved . It is basically the same thing as Dark Star. Made with all Lemon Virginia's so no red Virginia bite for me. I got a tip a few weeks before MC went under and I grabbed 140 tins of the Dark Stoved.
Ha! You missed 10 tins of them, Harris.

I smoked a tin of Royal Vintage. Didn't much care for it as the ketchup kind of collided with the stoved sweetness in an unhappy (for me) manner. I'll give it another go in a couple of years when it's had more time for the flavors to merge.

I actually could have bought more but I knew 140 would be enough for me to smoke if ages like I think it will. If I was planning on selling any I would have bought more, but I don't ever plan on buying something with the intention of selling it later. If I have to sell something it will because I screwed up and it didn't age like I thought it would. So far that has happened one time and only for 25 tins. I bought Samuel Gawith Cabbies Mixture without testing it as I never assumed they would load it with red Virginia's. I am sure I will have no issues getting rid of it. It tastes freaking great but my tongue will not allow me to smoke it.

I think the Dark Stoved will be much smoother at the 5 year mark or I could be totally wrong and it never gets tasting great. I like my chances of it being tasty.

Improperly dried Samuel Gawith was my nemesis. For some reason I never had the same issue with Gawith Hoggarth blends, possibly because they are mostly sold in bulk vs tins, so they had time to gently dry getting to me.

So I just finished smoking that one. Looks like 85 minutes with one relight near the bottom of the chamber with Dark Star fully rubbed out and gravity filled.
Yes! Somehow in this man's pipe the notorious DarkStar was very well behaved.

I never resorted to the drying down schedule prescribed in this thread except when I received a lb. that was obviously very wet, in which case I would spread it out on cookie sheets and jar it an hour or two later.

As regards the many blends listed above, I had no problems keeping them lit.

But the one that takes the cake for me is Ken Byron’s Byronic Slices. There’s some great red Va flavor in there, but it’s damn near impossible to smoke.
This! People appear to be bonkers over it, but I can't make up my mind as it won't f'ing burn.

I've been having a little trouble with a new tin of SG BBF, but it's more of a minor annoyance as it doesn't need *that* many relights. I assume age will take care of it.

Byronic Slices and Jupiter Slices both have an issue burning. But once you get them going, they are flavorful and bitey. I’m giving my stash some time to age in the cellar.

Sutliff aromatics, they arrive soggy as hell. On top of that they have a shiny sheen to them, as if they hydrated them with glycol. It's at the point of just keep your lighter going every time you want a puff.
