Absolutely true, to me. As with the Japanese tea ceremony, the tactile dimension is an integral part of the pipe smoking experience, not some ancillary quirk a few people notice ... it is essential, and if you deny it, you are missing part of the point of pipe smoking at all, which is an invitation to your senses and an expansion of experiencing life. The texture of the finish, whether intricately carved or rusticated or sandblasted, or smooth and curvaceous, and also definitely the balance or imbalance of the pipe, its lightness or weight, are all experienced through the sense of touch. Never noticed this much? Get busy!
