It did not look like this. Sometimes the Wayback Machine doesn't download all of the files. In this case, it didn't download the css file, which has all of the styling - basically the layout and colors - they're all missing.

This is what the first version looked like in early 2009. I was too busy yesterday. Sorry for my curt reply. Now I can have some fun with it. The pipe in the logo was my first pipe ever.

Second version that lasted until the relaunch in September 2019 when we finally ditched the ever so crappy BBPress system for the forums, and changed to Xenforo ... which has it's issues too, but is much better, and the site is much more mobile friendly since then.
