All I know are Peterson blends.
EPM - First tobacco I've ever loved. Sutliff match EMP was first then I tried real EMP and it just has a taste that I cant get anywhere else. When I want EMP, nothing else compares. I'm working with Chelsea morning, but they are very different. EMP has this sour funk that I love, CM progresses more on the sweet side, but also good.
Nightcap - I have had some magic smokes on this one, but it doesn't always work for me. Also working with quiet nights, but again... very different. I've got a big jar of "english leftovers" that is made of up anything english and honestly sometimes it reminds me of nightcap.
Elizabethian - very disappointed. I wanted to like this one but it just fell flat on me. going to try it again in a year. Bayou morning fits this niche for me better and cheaper.
Royal Yacht - I tried this way too early in my pipe career. I didn't understand the flavors and it was too strong. I cant wait to try this again now that I've had time to develop.
University Flake - This was just bad. I dumped the first bowl and haven't been able to bring my self to try it again. This and C&D Pennington Gap are the only two I've ever been able to not finish. One day I'll try again...
Peterson Flake: First ever tongue bite, I had no idea what I was doing but it tasted good. I jarred it up and will try again with age.
My965: it's good but I only smoke it to pretend I'm Faulkner...
DNR: I cant bring myself to pop the tin of this one... it's so expensive... I know I'll love it though Escudo is my #1 all time.
Long post, I enjoyed writing it more than anyone would by reading it. I like the brand but I wonder how much of its survival is really just nostalgia and connection to the past. But honestly, for me that's a big piece of this hobby. As I wrote this post out I realized that I really only like EMP... but if you were to ask me I would have said I love the Peterson blends. I think I just like the idea of them and seeing them on my shelf, but I usually grab for something else.
nice write up!! im sorry to hear about university flake. On a sale, i bought 5-6 tins figuring it would be good. ive heard only negative about it ahahahah.

Ill let it sit for some years and maybe it will surprise me. My palate isnt very nuanced, but I like most everything. half and half was only tobacco I was ever close to not liking.

Although Dunhill bowed out before I got into pipe smoking, I did buy a tin of Aperitif a few years ago just out of sheer principle (the tin art is what did it for me). Instant favorite! I'm also sitting on a tin of Durbar, but I have precious little jar space available, and this is just one of several tinned blends vying for my pick as the next to be dug into.

Great stuff! I cracked a tin the other day and glancing at the tin art I noticed for the first time in almost 25 years of smoking it that the actual name is THE Apéritif! It’s like find out after 25 years that you’ve been living in THE Bronx all this time. 🤣

Cordial is delightful and I’ve loved it enough to cellar half a pound or so, though others here on the board have said that it’s nowhere near as delicious as The Aperitif.

A fella here kindly sent me a generous sample of actual The Aperitif (along with some other real Dunhill blends), and I am really looking forward to giving it a try tomorrow evening!

I’m too new to the hobby and am limited to the Peterson branded tins myself, of those that are Dunhill carry overs I enjoy Royal Yacht the most and DNR.

I do like many of the Peterson labeled blend s that weren’t carryovers-were any of those the same mixtures from the Dunhill brand with different names?

I was gifted a tin of ‘15 Three Year Matured and if it were still being sold I’d buy it for sure.

For some reason I didn't really like 965, but I loved Nightcap.

Only recently did a fellow forum member send me a sample of Aperitif, and oh boy, do I regret not smoking this back when it was available. I like it better than Nightcap.

Royal Yacht is fine. Unlike most smokers, I neither dislike nor adore it. I can see why it polarizes many, but for me it's just an interesting change of pace, sometimes.

DNR was solid, but not exceptional. Very like other VaPer coins. Which is very good, but just good.

Elizabethan was higher perique than I prefer.

My favorite Dunhill may be Dark Flake. Sometimes it's a tad "roastier" than I prefer, but only a tad -- it was infinitely better than Wessex Campaign. It was more like Astley's No. 44. Darn good. I have a couple tins left that I'll leave sit for the time being.

So my two answers are Aperitif and Dark Flake.
