Wet Shave

Yes, wet shave. Isn't all the shaving wet shave? No. Electrical shaver that still requires cord to an outlet isn't one, unless you want to end it quick. And no, it's not what your gf does before.. Never mind.

So last month or so, I changed over to double edged safety razor. Then funny thing happened. It's like pipe smoking. I can't stop buying vintage shaver.

And it takes much longer than other shavers. What with triple milled soap and brush and what not. But definitely gives better results.

It is much better shave and very economical.

I found this tobacco scented shaving cream that was made in honour of my old barber. He recommended that I use these blades after I started using a safety razor about a dozen years ago.

The shaving cream lasts me about two years. I bought a whole package of these feather blades that I’ve been using for over a decade. I probably could have stretched that to 30-40 years but I changed them after a couple shaves most of the time. The Merkur handle cost me about $80CAD.

I don’t even have a real boar hair brush. This is a synthetic one I got at the Body Shop. The real boar hair brush I bought broke the second time I used it and that was $80 so I never got another one.

I been using Gillette’s but also have Merkur, Parker, Star, Schick and Gem.
These are my standard rotation of Super Speeds that get the most use.
I use Proraso Soaps and Elios or Dovo Blades the most.

I got into it myself but never felt the need to buy multiple razors or soaps. I purchased the adjustable Rockwell razor, so I didn’t need any more. And yes, I will buy different aftershaves but I use the same razor and soap everyday. Proraso Green works for me. Before that I used Arko a lot.

I have actually switched to a Leaf Razor. Which combines the design of a cartridge razor with DE/SE blades.

I switched because I became a head shaver and a DE razor isn’t partial to curves.

So I use a Leaf Razor with Derby Premium blades and Proraso Green soap. The only thing that changes is the aftershaves.

Too much trouble for me. I have a short beard. I just take a good quality electric to my neck when I get to it.

Id put myself in the hospital if I tried to use a straight razor!

Straight razor is easier to use than you think.
Gives a cleaner shave and no razor burn.

My dad has always used a BlueTip Super Speed like this one

Also - Do you know if there is any difference between the Blue Tip and Red Tip or are they the same just a different color?

As far as I know one is more agressive than the other....just don't ask me which is which But i'm almost certain that teh red one is the most agressive.

So Blue Tips are Less aggressive and the Reds are more aggressive. All of my Reds are 1959 models and they can burn you up if you’re not used to using them. You’ll find that the Blue Super Speeds do well on the neck in sensitive spots really well.
A couple days of stubble the Red will take it off with ease.
Im partial to Gillette’s and especially my Fat Boys and Slim Adjustable's but for Modern razors Merkur 34’s or Futur’s and Parkers get my vote.

Red tip def the more aggressive.

So I sharpen my straight razors all the way up to a 30000 grit stone then strop. I used to only go up to 16000 grit stone. Made a big difference.

Never used electric or disposable. Been using safety and straight razors since I was a teenager.

That's all I've been using for shaving, for decades. Electric razors are not for me, they take all the fun out of it.

I think TOBS (Taylor of Old. One Stret) is probably the best cream I have found. I like the sandal wood scent they have. It’s my Sunday cologne for church.

Ah, right. I mostly use Proraso Green or White, the soap cream.
