LOL Sorry Tom, but the number of those attending is less than not ;)
Yeah Moody, Alabama is a great title!!! I might use that!
Graydawn, Pecks taste, but an empty wallet :(
To those who believe in Nate, I'm sorry. I once believed in him also, but the reality is disappointing and disturbing. He's a fraud and it should concern you that he's free to wander the streets of... Moody, Alabama :puffy:

We are pretty spread out. We tend to go to the shows closest to us. I could drive to Chicago with just an overnight stay there and back. New Orleans is close enough to make a good weekend of it. And, The Briary always has surprises a few times a year. After this summer, I'll be a little more up to driving across country. My goal is to get to all of the good shows, eventually. I may only buy one fantastic pipe at each show, and will take advantage of tobacco selections.

For me, 5% is shopping, 25% is meeting artists in the biz, 35% meeting which ever of you guys show up and other interesting pipe guys, and 35% fun traveling with the wife. And, it's all about the adventure.

Ever wonder why more guys in the hobby who regularly attend pipe shows are on Facebook and not on the boards anymore? 8O

I can't imagine why anyone would rather participate in the FB forums. I scroll through them avery now and then, and there are just too many people, so that everyone is anonymous. There are still dicks that will post stuff contrarian like N8 has here. So, I don't see any obvious reason for anyone who loves shows to leave the PM forums.

Vegas Baby!!!
I'm confused, what do attendance at shows, forum participation and FB have to do with each other? Does this mean that since I have a job, am busy and can't stand FB I can't attend? No, it means nothing.
I didn't realize FB is for mature things like "hey, look at the size of my turd" or "hey, I just found a loser I went to school with and guess what, he's still a loser?"
Oh well, I must not be cut out for social media.
But I'm still going to the show.

At least on here, the population is of a nice size, so that when someone posts something contrarian, we know that "Oh, it's just Nate being funny" and we can join in. On Facebook, when some stranger out of a hundred thousand strangers posts something contrarian, they are just dicks.

The posting of purely contrarian info which exists only for the sake of being contrarian, its extemporaneous and has no place in our wonderful forum. This Nate guy is just a sad, small minded tool and should simply be ignored :) I just hope he's listening.

I don't really think we got the point across. There is always a place to have fun on the forum, or I wouldn't frequent it any longer. But When a joke thread gets way more action than an actual meaningful thread . . . then we really are just about a bunch of shenanigans.
We can say how much value we have over the FB groups, however, there is something to say about many of the well known guys or veterans participating on FB and shying away from forums.
It has been an observation over the last few years. It started when the SF.co.uk forums went down the second time.
I'm still coming here though :) I like it here!

I thought forums were dying off and being replaced by FB.
I hope that's not the case as I can't stand those damn FB groups.
I won't be going to Vegas. Heck I've never been to a pipe club meeting or any show before. One of these days I'll make it to a hudson valley pipe club meeting with doverpipes aka Sean.
I would go to the NY pipe club show if it wasn't in New Jersey.

Yeah I've got sort of social anxiety so it's hard for me to make that leap. But once I make it to the first meeting I'm good and then I would be a regular. I couldn't make it last night so I'm hoping to go to their holiday party.

Being anti Facebook myself and new to pipes, it was real joy for me to find this forum group while researching my new found interest and joy. I spent awhile reading threads and learning more about the ppl here before joining myself. It truly feels like coming home and that I might have found a place in which I fit. Sure I've seen the joking and playing around, usually always done on a more mature level then fb and I've seen petty squabbles and bickering that generally always ends in a virtual handshake and slaps on the back and I have to say that these are the things that made up my mind to join. There is a since of true friendship and family here that I long to be apart of.
At any rate, due to a broken axle I'm sadly going to miss the Vegas show but i believe in you N8. Go, have fun and pinch a bowl for me ;)

Thank you cosmic. It's a set back but on the bright side, I'll be able to set a little side until the next Vegas show.
